You may have heard it said  “where two or more are gathered I’ll be there” means ask for anything and God will provide. But what if I told you God is not a cosmic vending machine? If you read the entire section in context, what we learn is that this is just one small part of Jesus explaining why it’s important for Christ followers to make sure we work things out with one another because the words we use with one another “are eternal”.  Even larger, we have to say why do we need to work things out with one another? Because ultimately we are supposed to be like God which means we are supposed to reconcile and rescue regardless. We’re supposed to let Love beat the driving force and if that’s the case we’re going to want to use good words with one another and we’re always going to want to look for a way to reconcile where possible. ““Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. These verses mean so much because just before them...we are reminded that God promises rest for us all and encourages us not to give up out of disobedience. It’s a callback to how the Israelites disobeyed God, and everyone reading this would’ve known what the author meant as he hammered home 3 points: 1. God keeps His promises. 2. When your ancestors stopped trusting that God keeps His promises and they did their own thing...it didn’t go well for them. 3. If you act like them it won’t end well for you either.  God loves you, He keeps his promises. Stay the course, follow Him, take courage and hope that your rest day is coming.  “God means what he says. What he says goes. What does it mean when the Bible says to be faithful, honest‘ in small things’? Not an easy question always is it? Think like this...you’re working at a local fast food place while going to college to be a doctor. Maybe you don’t give it 100%  because to you, it’s a stepping stone before the important thing. But guess what, to the owner of that business it is THEIR livelihood and to the customer ordering food it is THEIR meal so the small things...are just as important to others, and to God, as the big things. God wants to see that we are going to be faithful with EVERYTHING because the small things don’t just lead to the big things, they ARE the big things. “Jesus went on to make these comments: If you’re honest in small things, you’ll be honest in big things; If you’re a crook in small things, you’ll be a crook in big things. If you’re not honest in small jobs, who will put you in charge of the store? No worker can serve two bosses: He’ll either hate the first and love the second Or adore the first and despise the second. Hey "christians" did you know that preaching hell isn't good news to anyone? Many people shy away from knowing God because they've been hammered on by "christians" who want to scare you into religion by using the threat of eternal fire. What's interesting is to me is, the writers of our scripture did didn't take this approach...so why do "christians" insist on preaching a message of hell fire?  In the King James Version of the Bible for example, love is mentioned 311 times where as hell is mentioned just 31 times.  So LOVE is the driving message that is promoted 10X more than hell.  Why am I sharing this? Because a good father loves their children and wants the best for them. A good father wants to help their children. Jesus shared a reminder of this in the book of Luke. If the writers of scripture realized that talking about love has 10X more value for helping people know God and follow Jesus, perhaps "christians" should consider using the same approach. “Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your little boy asks for a serving of fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? If your little girl asks for an egg, do you trick her with a spider? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing—you’re at least decent to your own children. And don’t you think the Father who conceived you in love will give the Holy Spirit when you ask him?” Luke 11:11 Message Translation P.S. If you wonder why I put "christians" in quotes...it's because I don't believe Jesus came to create a religion in His name. He criticized the pharisees over and over again about putting religion and rules over following God by loving Him and loving other people. So yes I follow Jesus, and yes I believe the Bible is truth but no, I don't use the label "christian" because I feel that it is just one more label that has been used to divide people by assuming who's "in" and who's "out" and as best I can tell, Jesus came to rescue everyone, and scripture says God launched this rescue even "when we were His enemies".
