What if you don’t need to “get saved”? I hear my brothers and sisters in the Christian faith often talk about people “getting saved” but when I read the scriptures, I struggle with believing there is a need to “get saved”. I say this because, it seems to me the saving was already done by Jesus on the cross. For example, Romans 3 says… “for we all have sinned and are in need of the glory of God. Yet through his powerful declaration of acquittal, God freely gives away his righteousness. His gift of love and favor now cascades over us, all because Jesus, the Anointed One, has liberated us from the guilt, punishment, and power of sin!” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:23-24‬ ‭TPT‬‬ God FREELY gave this gift. Now, before you think I’m saying we can continue to live a life of party rocking rebellion against God let me assure you, I most certainly am not suggesting that. What I’m suggesting is that if we truly understand that we HAVE ALREADY been saved by Jesus, and if we truly understand that there is NOTHING we can do to earn it, or repay Him, and if we truly are given this FREELY…well, when we realize what has really been done for us…I don’t see how it would be possible for our hearts not to change. When you realize how selflessly someone loves you, it creates a curiosity about them. You want to know WHY they live you so much. Who could possibly love ME like this. So the. You want to get to know more about them…and the more you learn, the more you like what you see…and the more you realize…”I want to be like that Jesus too.” The world doesn’t need more “say the sinners prayer” shallow conversions into a club called Christianity where only certain people are saved because they said the magic words in a moment of emotional turmoil. The world needs more people who realize that they were given a gift they could never deserve or pay for, by a God who loved them even at the deepest and darkest moments in their lives. Realizing this, and knowing we are God’s beloved, will lead to a repentant heart. Don’t condemn, trust Holy Spirit to convict. Question for my #IG friends. What keeps you from going to church? NOTE: I am not trying to “convert” anyone here and this isn’t going to lead to me pushing you to believe what I believe. I have felt God put it on my heart to pray about how we are to love on people, and I’ve felt this overwhelming push for Dara and I to be part of starting a church somewhere in the future (not sure when or what it looks like yet) I really want to understand the things that are turning people off to the idea of going to church. Life is meant to be done in community in order to function properly. The Bible refers to believers as “the body” so why do we stand by and watch parts of the body hurting and do nothing about it? Talking about Jesus is important so people hear His truth but if we don’t ACT LIKE JESUS…then we are just Pharisees disguised as Christ followers. “Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day’s out. Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law. The Bible tells us to draw near to God and He will draw near to you. This was pointed out by the Pastor at the church we visited in TN and it is so true. The Bible doesn’t say “sit back and wait for God to come get ya”. If we want an encounter with God…all we have to do is take the steps to move toward Him. How? Learn who God is (read the Bible). Talk to Him (prayer) Follow Jesus’ lead by loving people and by TRUSTING GOD WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE…even if it seems way different than your plan. “Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. I don’t often share things that I believe God puts in my heart, but I feel like this is one I need to share. I recently was very convicted regarding any political conversations taking place. I felt God move my heart with this: If you have time to remind people of how much you dislike the government, you have time to tell them about me instead. Which is a better use of your time? Jesus didn’t tell you to make enemies of a corrupt government, He told you to make disciples of Him. People in power have power because I gave them that power, and I have a purpose for that…and you don’t have to understand it. You have a choice of what you’ll do with what I’ve given you. Will you keep wasting your time and talents and gifts speaking out about the people I put in power that you can’t control, or will you invest that time, and those gifts and those talents into sharing my love, and my message of redemption through Jesus. Guess what I’m focusing on now? The Jewish people in Jesus’ day lived under a government who would literally kill them for opposing Rome. Protests got you beaten or possibly crucified. Rome was literally an oppressive government. They persecuted the Jewish people. Yet Jesus said love you enemies. And Paul later goes on to say the following… “Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:14‬ ‭NIV‬‬ This doesn’t mean I dont see the injustice, or the lies and hypocrisy. It means sharing the truth, love, honesty and redemption God has for you and I are more important to focus on…and I will trust GOD to deal with the rest. “Americanism is NOT Christianity.” A.W. Tozer I believe that if we want true revival, we must stop preaching “America” and focus on preaching Jesus and the redemptive story of God’s love. We are called to make disciples… Disciples of Jesus, not of America’s founding fathers. While I am grateful to have been born in America, it breaks my heart when Christians talk about America and the founding fathers as if it’s synonymous with God, Jesus, Christianity in the Bible. That’s 100% false. It’s good to be grateful for the blessings of the country that we live in. It’s also good to recognize the opportunities our country can make for improving the lives of the people that live here, and being a help to others in the world who need it. Its NOT good to “sell” Jesus, the Bible and GOD as if they are some die hard patriots who are die hard for America. God is die hard about love, rescue, redemption, and truth. God is die hard about restoring people to Him. God is not about being a patriot bo matter how hard we try to twist the scriptures to pretend He is. Patriotism is NOT sinful either. Thats not what I am saying here. The order of importance our lives as we see in scripture as best I can tell is… God Family Family (brothers and sisters in faith) All people who don’t yet know Jesus …(yeah…not seeing anything in there about fighting to exalt America). Which message do you want to world to know you for… A.Jesus is Lord and God loves you? Yesterday at the park this group of young folks that appeared to be High School/College aged gathered and all the sudden the acoustic guitar kicks in and they’re singing worship music. This gives me so much joy to see God being proclaimed publicly by the next generations.
