Why do Christians teach that we must choose Jesus to receive salvation? As best I can tell from the scriptures, choosing Jesus is a RESPONSE to the salvation He paid for, by giving His life on the cross. To me, it’s a much more powerful testimony when someone chooses Christ out of loving response to what He did than to choose Him out of fear of judgement. One is out of love and respect, the other seems to be out of fear and self preservation, which ultimately seems like a self-serving reason. Jesus, I choose you because you first chose me. Thank you for loving me even when I didn’t love you back. We have the freedom to choose what we want, live how we want and speak how we want. That said…what we choose, how we live, and how we speak will determine what we are known for. This will show people what is in our hearts, and what matters to us. I can’t believe that Jesus died, and redeemed us with God, so we would just choose to keep living our same old lives, slaves to our SARX (the desires of our flesh). I have to believe that He redeemed us all for a purpose that’s greater than what we could do on our own. On my own I can do a lot of good things for others, and myself, and my family and frankly you can too. Now…imagine how much more we can accomplish with God on our side. More love. More mercy. More grace. We have the freedom to share the love of God with a world in desperate need of it. Today, let me encourage you to make the most out of your freedom. Instead of using it to complain about all of the things that are wrong in the world, use your freedom to do something right. Whether you know it or not, you are a child of God. Who’s hungry? We all hunger for something but many times we don’t exactly@know what’s missing. We hunger for approval so we work a ton, or we buy stuff so people will like us. We hunger for affection so we hook up with people in the hopes that they’ll love us. But God loves us, and God has already approved us thanks to Jesus and what He did because He loves us. Check out what Jesus said as recorded in John 6:35 (Passion Translation) “Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life. Come every day to me and you will never be hungry. Believe in me and you will never be thirsty.” Once we realize who Jesus is and what Je’s done and WHY He did it, we start to realize things that we never saw before. We realize that we are approved, we are enough, we are loved. We realize that we are free to live life to the fullest. Free to love with everything we have inside. And if we take a moment to be honest…doesn’t the world need more love?
