Happy Sunday!

Welcome to the fourth edition of The Sunday Stir! If you haven't checked out my website, you can do so here. I'm going to be writing more consistently in 2021 and publishing my book notes there too. I'm currently reading the 50th Law, The (Honest) Truth about Dishonesty, and Amusing Ourselves to Death. My most recent article was on Information Overload.

Alrighty, on to the Stir

-----------------------

The World of Lucid Dreams & Sleep Paralysis

Have you ever woken up from sleep completely paralyzed and unable to move? Sometimes it feels if someone is holding you down. It's a terrifying experience, however, this article explores how this moment can actually be used to tap into extremely vivid and elaborate dreams. It's a scientific look at this wild phenomenon.

If you ever wake up unable to move, try not to panic. Remind yourself that you stand at the threshold of a fantastical world, a strange hinterland, an exhilarating space in which you are awake, but have a REM toy box at your disposal.

The World of Hearing Loss from Headphones

A lot of us might have significant hearing problems when we're older thanks to headphones. If you've ever been on a bus, sitting next to someone listening to music, chances are you could hear their music too. If you've ever wondered if you're listening to something too loud, now your iPhone can tell you.

Listening to something at 80 decibels (dB) for more than 40 hours in a one-week period increases your risk of hearing loss. Raise it 10 dB to 90, and damage can begin after only four hours a week. Turn it up over 100 dB, and listening for just a few minutes a week can cause damage.

If you have an iPhone and want to easily be able to tell if you're in a safe range or not, follow this guide for setting it up.

The World of Reading and Note-Taking

There's hasn't been an easy way to take your highlights from a physical book and digitize them. You had to look at the book and type the quote up if you wanted to store it in your digital notes. With Readwise, you just take a picture of the page and then select the sentences you want to digitize and it does it for you. This saves so much time. I started using it recently and it's been a game changer. Super easy.

The World of Interesting Videos

The World of Proverbs

A tranquil heart is life to the body, but envy rots the bones. - Proverbs 14:30

Thoughts: Peace gives you life. And you will never have it if you envy what others have.
