Sunday Stir #30 - Budgeting, Saving, Net Worth, Old Places
Jul 19, 2021 5:16 am
Happy Sunday! The last week I've been focused on our finances and paying off debt. As a family, we're almost 100% out of debt, currently at about 95%. It's a great feeling and you start feeling unstoppable when you don't owe anybody money for anything, not even for a car. I can see why people who are out of debt want to pay for cash for everything. Any who, a big part of this episode is around finances.
Alrighty on to the Stir!
The World of Finances
Budgeting, tracking spending, and keeping up with all of your different banking institutions can be a huge pain. I just got this app, CoPilot, for managing all of my finances. First, you connect all of your accounts (checking, savings, loans, mortgages, investments, cash, etc) and it gives you a snapshot of your net worth. It pulls all of your transactions into one dashboard that makes it super easy to see exactly where your money is being spent. You can setup smart categories and budgets that track how much you have spent in each category. It's awesome to see what areas you're overspending in any given month. Maybe you are way over your budget for eating out or ordering food in, now you can make sure get that under control.
What I like about is that it's $70 for the year. I don't trust companies that do stuff similar to this, but for free. They are doing something with your data, you can guarantee that. With CoPilot, you're paying for really awesome dashboards, top notch security, and privacy. If you unsubscribe and delete app, they wipe all your data completely. They're super transparent about what they're doing, which I appreciate. If you're interesting, you can do a 30 day free trial. And if you are interested, please use my referral code. I get a few months free if you do! Woohoo!
The World of Just for Fun
We've all seen pictures of amazing places now but what about 100 years ago? It's hard to imagine what a place could have looked like in the past. It's amazing to see how much places can change. Just for fun, let's look at some places now and in the past.
First up, Hong Kong in 1964 vs 2020.
Machu Picchu, Peru in 1915 vs 2020
Chicen Itza 1892 vs Now
Picchu and Itza needed some cleaning up. Things don't just stay the same on Earth. Everything around it keep growing and will eventually overtake a man-made structure.
The World of Proverbs
"'Keeping your word' is a masculine trait, in men or women. A person with a feminine essence may not keep her word, yet it is not exactly "lying." In the feminine reality, words and facts take a second place to emotions and the shifting moods of a relationship. When she says, 'I hate you,' or 'I'll never move to Texas,' or 'I don't want to go to the movies,' it is often more a reflection of a transient feeling-wave than a well-considered stance with respect to events and experience. On the other hand, the masculine means what it says. A man's word is his honor. The feminine says what it feels. A woman's word is her true expression in the moment." - Way of the Superior Man
