can your value grow without more of you?

Hey there...
So I've told you how...
Years ago, when I ran the Highly Paid Experts Network, we built something I was proud of.
At one point, we had 37 centres across 19 countries.
Some centres had close to 100 people attending.
Others had three.
I travelled to as many of them as I could.
At the time, I thought:
This is scale.
And to a degree, it was.
Other people were carrying the work into places I wasn't.
But looking back, I now see that I had learned how to mobilise before I had fully learned how to multiply.
There is a difference.
Mobilisation says:
Other people can carry this.
Multiplication says:
What they carry can keep creating more value without constantly coming back to me for fuel.
That is the10th and final Distinction I'll be unpacking out of all 16 distinction.
MULTIPLICATION IS MORE VALUE WITH LESS FOUNDER DEPENDENCE.
Not less founder value.
Less founder dependence.
Why?
I don't want to build something where I become irrelevant.
I want to build something where my highest-order value is no longer consumed by work that shouldn't require me.
And I think this is one of the most interesting lessons in the Dangote Refinery story.
The refinery's productive capacity does not live inside Aliko Dangote.
It lives in infrastructure.
Engineering.
People.
Processes.
Standards.
Capital.
Distribution.
The founder may carry the vision.
But the productive capacity has been externalised into something larger than the founder.
That is the game.
Because anything whose productive capacity lives mainly inside one person has a hard ceiling.
No matter how gifted that person is.
You have limited time.
Limited energy.
Limited attention.
So here is one of my favourite tests:
If demand for your work doubled tomorrow, what would have to double with it?
Your hours?
Your calls?
Your travel?
Your meetings?
Your personal delivery?
Your stress?
If so, you may be growing.
But you are not yet multiplying.
More work can look a lot like success right before it becomes a prison.

This is one reason I'm so interested in what we can now do with intellectual property.
Suppose I have a way of diagnosing a business problem.
At first, the capability lives in me.
I ask the questions.
I spot the pattern.
I make the judgment.
Then I codify it.
I identify the distinctions, variables, decision rules and standards.
Now the intelligence can begin to leave my head.
Then I turn some of it into a WayTool.
Now the tool can carry part of the thinking.
Then I train another competent person to use it.
Now someone else can produce a result using intelligence that once depended almost entirely on me.
Then that person uses it repeatedly.
We gather evidence.
We learn.
The tool improves.
The standards improve.
The next person starts from a stronger position.
Now something important has happened.
We have moved beyond delegation.
We have begun building productive capacity that can reproduce and improve itself.
That is what I call multiplication.
And that is the main thing running through this entire Dangote series.
A result is not yet an asset.
The market has to be able to understand the value.
The result has to become predictable.
Your proof has to carry the size of your claim.
You have to leave productive capacity behind, not just revenue.
You have to reduce unnecessary founder dependence.
You have to codify the intelligence.
Commercialise it.
Mobilise others around it.
And then finally:
Build the people, tools and systems through which that value can continue expanding without requiring an equivalent expansion of you.
That is the fifth Move.
Produce.
Codify.
Commercialise.
Mobilise.
Multiply.
And that last Move changes the ambition.
You stop asking:
"How much can I personally do?"
And start asking:
"How much productive capacity can my life's work create?"
That is why I'm increasingly interested in WayTools, Packaged Intelligence, trained Tribemasters, licensing, software and WayHouses.
Not simply because they save time.
And certainly not because I want to disappear.
But because they allow wisdom to become infrastructure.
Infrastructure that can help someone think when I'm not there.
Make a decision without needing an hour of my calendar.
Produce a result through someone I've trained.
Carry a standard into an organisation I've never entered.
Influence the policies of country without me even being a citizen of that country.
That is when your work starts becoming bigger than your body.
So perhaps the cleanest way I can leave you with this distinction is this:
Scale means you can do more.
Multiplication means more can happen without requiring more of you.
The goal is not to become unnecessary.
The goal is to stop being the only place where the value lives.
I hope you've enjoyed this series as much I have enjoyed sharing it.
Yesterday I sent a second email about a breakthrough series of technologies I'm calling WayTools™.
Later today...
I'll be sharing more about that and all through the weekend...
So you'll know why I'm so excited about it.
Till then...
Be dangerously useful
Get out of your own way.
