When I was a kid, my dad taught me to do this when making a big decision.

"Joel, take out a pen and a piece of paper. Draw a line down the middle. On the top of the left side write the word 'pros.' On the top right-hand side, write 'cons.'

You've done this little exercise, right? Let's continue.

On the left side, you list all the 'pros' of doing whatever it is you're thinking of doing.

Then on the right, you write down all the 'cons'...all of the negatives.

In theory, if the pros outweigh the cons, you move forward. If the opposite is true, you don't. Easy-peasey.

Does This Really Work?

I don't know about you, but I've done this dozens of times. Mostly when I was a young pup. I guess it worked. It's worth a try, right?

But what if you're thinking about becoming your own boss?

Do you really want to base your decision on what you've written down on a piece of paper?

Again, I don't know. But in this case, it's a good starting point.
