He Would Have Been 84 Today

My dad would have been 84 today. He died in 2007 from lung cancer.

Jerry excelled at lots of things. For instance, he was::

  • A great salesman
  • A terrific public speaker
  • An amazing babysitter

In addition, he was a good teacher.

And in his case, he taught by example.

The Most Important Thing My Dad Taught Me

When I think of my dad, and how he conducted his life-both on and off the field (of business), I always think of one specific thing he drilled into me.

"Joel, your reputation is the most important thing you have. You need to do what you say you're going to do."

Now, while what my dad said is true-and it's what I do, there's something deeper I got from his words.

For me, it's about ethics.

It's about doing the right thing for the people who pay me to guide them through the always intense franchise buying process.

It's about doing the right thing for my family and my friends.

And it's about only doing business with people and businesses I like and trust. People and companies who feel as strongly about ethics and honesty that I do.

What about you?

How important is ethics to you?

Will you spend your money with less-than-ethical people or companies?

Or, like me, are you picky as hell?

Finally, if you live in the United States, you're getting ready to vote for a President, along with Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen. I am too.

Now, I'm not going to ask who you're voting for.

But I am going to ask that you vote.

And that you vote for people you feel will not only do the best job for you and our country, state or city, but who will be ethical as they do it.
