The quiet realisation I had before dinner…

Hi ,
Please note: This email touches on themes of body changes, weight release, and relationship with food. If you are currently navigating eating disorder recovery or find discussions around weight sensitive, please take gentle care of yourself and feel free to skip this message.
Sometimes, we create the very tools we need most-knowing they might offer comfort to others, too...
Lately, I've been on a journey of releasing some weight. I intentionally use the word "release" rather than "loss", because subconsciously, losing something can make us feel as though a part of us is missing and needs to be found again, and I'm trying to change the way I think about this journey.
Like many people, I experience food noise...that subtle background chatter or constant thoughts about the next meal or snack, even when I'm full up or resting in bed...something I continue to work on through tapping.
Part of this process meant looking closely at my relationship with my own body, especially my belly... for years, I found a deep sense of comfort in the soft, roundness of my belly. It carried the memories of fertility treatments, longings, and the ultimate miracle of holding my children...
Now that my children have grown into fully-fledged adults (gulp!), I realised I was holding onto both the tangible and metaphorical physical memories of those childbearing years. I'm at peace knowing that chapter is complete, but honourably releasing that season took time and intention...I'm grateful for tapping to help me explore this with loving care 🙏
As with many new ideas and habits I get, I dove in headfirst without thinking about the details too much 🙈 so the very first thing was those easy healthier swaps/choices...swapping out my Friday night Tiramisu and Chipsticks (the most moreish...but not very healthy, crisps here in the UK) for things like fresh fruit and cucumber sticks.
But in my initial enthusiasm, I noticed something: I wasn't really slowing down to appreciate the food I carefully prepared 😬 so I wondered if there was something that could help me to enjoy my meals more mindfully...
I wanted a short, grounding tapping practice to use right before eating. Something to create presence and gratitude without triggering words or rules. When I couldn't find anything that resonated, I decided to create it myself 😊
The first recording didn't feel right, so I adjusted the wording. After a few final tweaks to cut down the length, I managed to create a lovely little video that you can watch. It's just 2 minutes long, and is ideally done right before eating, with your meal in front of you.
So if any of what I have said resonates, I really hope this helps you too! The aim is to encourage mindful eating, to notice your food, to appreciate it, to slow down...and to create a better relationship with food. I hope you like it.
