How do you tap?

Aug 24, 2026 10:30 am

Hi ,

Welcome to this week's newsletter! Today we're looking at how small, sensory tweaks can transform your daily practice, catching up on what's happening in our community, and sharing a quick look at what's coming next...

Creating your tapping space

First up, let's talk about how you can really make your tapping sessions more impactful 💜

There is no "one right way" to set up a tapping session...however while the points and phrases might stay the same, the environment and sensory cues you build around your practice can completely change how quickly your nervous system settles.

In fact, your environment can sometimes work against you if it triggers the very stress you're trying to clear 😬 For example...

  • Environmental Clutter: Tapping on feeling overwhelmed by your endless to-do list while sitting in a messy, cluttered room can be counterproductive...every time you open your eyes, you're visually reminded of everything you haven't done yet 🙈 Stepping into a clear space or turning your chair toward a blank wall can help your mind actually unwind 🙏

  • Over-Stimulation: If you're trying to tap through anxiety in a loud, bright kitchen while dinner is bubbling on the stove, your nervous system remains on high alert. Switching off bright artificial lights, using noise-cancelling headphones, or stepping into a dimly lit bedroom can signal to your body that it's safe to drop its guard 🙏

Here are a few ways you can bring your own unique touch to your tapping:

  • Sensory Anchors: One community member recently shared how pairing aromatherapy with EFT has deepened their practice - using grounding essential oils like lavender to anchor a sense of calm, and lemon for clarity and focus.

  • Visual Focus: Some people prefer closing their eyes to go inward and shut out distractions. However, for some, closing your eyes can actually trigger a feeling of being ungrounded or lead to dissociation. Keeping your eyes open with a soft-focus on a calming object like a cushion or a candle can help keep you safely anchored in the room while you process.

  • Space & Setting: Creating a cosy home ritual with soft lighting, candles, or background music works wonders for setting a safe, dedicated space to process deeper emotions.

  • Tapping On-the-Go: On busy days, you don't need a quiet room to regulate your nervous system. Discreet "finger-tapping" - gently tapping the sides of your fingernails while in a meeting, on public transport, or waiting in line, lets you quieten stress anywhere without drawing attention.

Try this today: Next time you tap, ask yourself: What does my nervous system need right now? A quiet space, a calming scent, soft music in the background...or something else?

EFT Tapping in the news

  • Pop Culture Spotlight: EFT is officially making waves on screen! A recent Vogue feature highlighted how tapping was written into The Devil Wears Prada 2 narrative itself - showing characters using tapping directly on screen as a go-to tool for managing stress and staying grounded under pressure.

  • New Clinical Research: A study published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research examined the impact of Emotional Freedom Techniques on women experiencing severe menstrual symptoms and dysmenorrhea. The findings showed that EFT significantly reduced symptom severity and improved overall quality of life, adding to the growing body of clinical evidence for somatic self-care.

New 5-day course coming soon

I'm currently working behind the scenes on a brand-new course: Resetting Your Nervous System.

It's designed to guide you through regulating your fight-or-flight response, down-shifting out of chronic tension, and building daily somatic resilience.

Best of all it will be completely free for all members as soon as it launches - yay! Keep an eye on your inbox over the coming weeks for early access updates 📥
