Here’s how:

Find their combo.

Let’s say your teammate is a reader-talker, and you’re a listener-talker (like me).

Scenario 1:

They’re updating you on something.

They’re a talker, and you’re a listener.

Perfect!

Just have a quick chat—they’ll love explaining it, and you’ll absorb it better by hearing.

Everyone’s in their zone.

(Yes, you might still need to document things afterward—but for the sake of clarity and momentum, talking it out first is gold.)

Scenario 2:

Now it’s your turn to share updates.

You could just talk it out (easy for you)…

But they’re a reader.

So if you only speak it, they’ll likely miss key pieces.

Better move?

Write it down first—even just bullet points.

Then you can talk it through after.

They get to absorb it their way, and perform better because of it.

This is what great team communication looks like.

It’s not always the easiest path in the moment—but it’s the smartest one.

And over time, that little bit of extra effort?

It turns into smoother projects, faster progress, and way fewer miscommunications.
