đźź© The illusion of speed (and why it works)

May 01, 2025 1:46 pm

Hi ,

A while back, I ordered a mattress online.

I knew shipping would take a few days—but within minutes of buying, I got a message:

“Your order’s in. Here’s what’s next. Track it here.”

Then another update the next day. And the next.

Funny thing is… the mattress didn’t arrive any faster.

But it felt fast.

Because the experience was responsive, clear, and always moving forward.

Now think about your business.

How fast does it feel?

Not how fast is it technically—how fast does it feel to your prospects and clients?

Because speed isn’t just delivery.

It’s communication.

It’s progress signals.

It’s clarity.

It’s: “I know what’s happening and what’s next.”

Here’s how to fake “instant” (and make it feel real):

  • Automated confirmations: A quick “Got it—here’s what’s next” goes a long way
  • Pre-loaded next steps: Never leave someone wondering what’s coming
  • Responsiveness: Speed of reply matters more than most consultants think
  • Micro-wins: Show visible progress early (even if the big stuff takes time)

If your client is sitting in silence after they say yes, you’ve already lost some trust.

Make it feel like momentum started before the ink dried.

Tomorrow, we’ll look at what’s really slowing you down—and the drag most consultants don’t see until it’s costing them.
