Hi ,
In the last two emails, [Email 1] [Email 2], we talked about how most businesses are built by default (not design), and how Max Brenner’s chocolate shop made me feel something before I even ordered.
Today, I want to break down why it worked so well.
Because you don’t walk out of a Max Brenner chocolate shop saying,
“Well, that was fine.”
You walk out grinning.
Texting someone.
Already planning to come back.
And it’s not just because the chocolate tastes good.
(Though it does.)
It’s because they nailed four specific factors — four things that make any experience not just satisfying, but memorable.
Here they are:
1. Visual
The place is a visual feast.
Syringes of chocolate. Mugs that say “Drink Me.”
A Hug Mug shaped like a teardrop that fits right in your hand.
Even the bill comes in a custom tin box.
It’s not just “on brand” — it is the brand.
2. Emotional
The smells. The menu written like a fairy tale.
The wink of Peter Pan references.
It doesn’t just appeal to your sweet tooth — it hits your inner child.
You feel something.
3. Functional
The hot chocolate comes at the perfect temperature.
The cup fits in your hand like it belongs there.
The menu is beautifully designed and easy to navigate.
It works — and works beautifully.
4. Financial
It’s not cheap — but you don’t care.
Because the value isn’t just in the chocolate.
It’s in the experience, the story, the surprise.
You’re not just buying dessert. You’re buying delight.
When those four factors line up — visual, emotional, functional, financial —
you’ve got something that sticks.
Something people want to share.
Something they remember.
So let me ask:
Which of these are you already strong in?
And which one needs attention?
