1-2-3: On Oversimplification
(Reading time: 1 min 51 seconds)
1 Idea
Have you ever felt lost or off track?
When I am working with my clients, they often tell me that they feel lost or uncertain. You would think that getting things done is pretty straightforward.
It is about going from point A to point B and keep going until you get there. That's it.
But it's not always that easy. Simple is good, but there is also such a thing as an oversimplification.
Let's examine the case.
We know there are only three parts to this model.
- Point A
- Point B
- The Path (that arrow between)
In my experience, there are three ways that entrepreneurs might get off track.
Image: Clarity Mindset - The Pitfalls
First scenario
They know where point A is, but they are unsure where point B is. That creates much frustration, and they end up working too hard without much progress.
Second scenario
This group of entrepreneurs has clarity on where they want to go, point B, but they are unclear on where they are now. They don't know where to start. So, again, they end up trying many things without much to show. As a result, they, too, end up feeling lost and stuck and eventually feeling helpless and hopeless.
Third scenario
This group is the majority. They know where they are and where to go but not sure how to get there. They have access to too many options. It quickly becomes confusing.
What happens next is they take the much longer path riddled with wrong turns. There'll be a lot of zigzagging and jumping from one track to another. As a result, lots of time, energy, and money go to waste. Unfortunately, many keep doing this until it is too late.
Stopping clients from going down this rabbit hole is one of the primary duties of a coach. The job is to help them get unstuck, get back, and stay on track.
2 Questions
- Do you have enough clarity to stay on track?
- Can you notice when you get off track before it is too late?
3 Actions
There are three steps to follow.
1- Get clarity on every one of the elements: A, B, and all Path options
2- Chose ONE path to follow
3- Identify your next ONE step and take it
or
3- If you notice an obstacle to completing the next step, the next step becomes finding a way to overcome it.
Keep repeating the above steps, and soon you'll feel you are on track and have evidence to prove it too.
The proof will increase your motivation, commitment, and determination.
You'll EARN the confidence to take all the future steps.
Enjoy it ... and take the next step right away!
