Sometimes You’re Exactly Where You Need to Be

“For just one day, trust that you are always in the right place at the right time. Do so and your frustrations will turn into peace and gratitude.”

It could be a busy open house that brings in the perfect guest. You hit it off and, before you know it, you have a new client.

Or maybe it was your kid’s ballgame. You’re standing along the fence, half watching pitches and half thinking about everything else on your plate. Between innings, a fellow parent strikes up a conversation. A few minutes later, they mention they might sell later in the year and casually ask if you could come by to walk through the place and share a few ideas.

It might be hanging out at the 19th hole when a boisterous group walks in celebrating a hole in one and declares, “The bar is open!

Or waiting at the airport when the gate agent pages you to say you’ve been upgraded to first class.

Or sitting in a painfully slow drive-thru line, waiting for a much-needed cup of coffee when you are already running late. The barista hands you your drink, smiles, and says, “The driver in front of you paid for your coffee. Have a nice day.

It is all about perspective and controlling the things you can control. That is a major factor in finding success in this business, and in life in general, because there is so little we can actually control.

I am especially glad I was at our place in Tampa when the storm of the century dumped nearly two feet of snow and single digit temperatures on much of the country. No shoveling. No scraping ice. No gloves, boots, or wool cap required.

I guess I was exactly where I needed to be.

“They say the secret of success is being at the right place at the right time, but since you never know when the right time is going to be, I figure the trick is to find the right place and just hang around.”
~ Bill Watterson
