Color My World
Every now and then, we all need to grab a box of crayons and a blank sheet of paper and just start coloring. It'll remind us of the creativity and fun that we used to exude as kids when we didn't really have a care in the world.
One of my earliest memories was coloring with crayons. I used to draw all day long. Coloring books were awesome, but a blank sheet of paper was even better.
I remember how excited I was to go to Culter's Drug Store every August to buy school supplies before the year started. We always got notebooks, pencils, pens, glue, scissors, and other items, but if we were lucky, we got a brand-new Crayola box of 64 crayons with the sharpener on the side. Remember those?
Tomorrow (March 31st) is National Crayon Day. While crayons date back centuries, Crayola was founded in 1885 and introduced its iconic wax crayons in 1903, creating safe, colorful tools for creativity.
An 8-count box sold for a nickel and included colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown, and black. More than 200 different colors have been produced, and over 50 colors have been retired over the years. I still remember colors like Burnt Sienna, Brick Red, Celestial Blue, Goldenrod, Sea Green, and Periwinkle.
What About Those Lines?
As we get older, we’re taught to “stay within the lines.” Follow the rules. And that’s good advice in many areas of life.
But some of the best artists ignore the lines.
They see them not as rules… but as suggestions.
Draw. Color, Scribble. Sketch.
Just grab a crayon and start.
Maybe it’s not about staying inside the lines…
Maybe it’s about learning how to color alongside others.
