10K and Counting
It doesn’t seem that long ago, but it also feels like a lifetime ago. Through the eyes of my two children, it’s more than a lifetime ago.
I had passed my real estate exam and officially became a licensed Realtor in Ohio the month before, but my “first day” of showing up #OnPurpose was April 15, 1998. I drove up to the training center on Frantz Road and took my seat in the class led by Alice. I don’t really remember what we learned that day, but I know I was excited to be there. I was eager to learn anything and everything that would help me become the best Realtor I could be.
At the time, I never thought about being the person in front of the room teaching the class and inspiring others to dream of becoming the best Realtor they could be. Yet, about four years and a hundred-plus transactions later, I was invited back as a guest speaker in that same classroom, sharing tips on open houses and, later, how to stay connected with clients and customers in my community. It wouldn't be long after that that I was the one standing in front of the classroom as the new Director of Education.
Another step in my journey.
Yesterday marked the 10,000th day since that “first day.” Those days have been filled with challenges and opportunities. They have been focused on earning trust by increasing my competence, strengthening my confidence, and demanding consistency. I’ve learned that each day is an opportunity to build relationships, solve problems, and have fun.
I’ll always remember Steve and Kristine, my first clients 27 years ago, and I won’t soon forget Jenn and Isa, my most recent clients from last week. I can point out houses across central Ohio that I’ve listed or sold, as well as the thousands I’ve shown or toured over the years. Like snowflakes or Grateful Dead concerts, none of the 10,000 days have ever been the same.
Who knows if I have another 10,000 days left in me. Nobody really does. But I know I have today, so I might as well make the best of it.
Time to have some conversations, schedule some appointments, and try to make a difference.
And if there’s time left after that, maybe I’ll enjoy a cold beer or two.
Who's thirsty?
