Putting the REM in Remember Me

I was driving to the course early in the morning for a weekend round of golf. It’s a pretty quick drive from my house to the course so no time for a podcast or anything. I usually just flip through my favorite channels on Sirius/XM.

I tried the Tom Petty channel, but they weren’t playing Tom Petty. Next.

Grateful Dead channel? "Let It Grow." Skip.

Jimmy Buffett Channel - "Domino College." Nope.

Let’s try Channel 25 - Classic Rewind….

… Six o'clock, T.V. hour, don't get caught in foreign tower

Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn

Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting

Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate

Light a candle, light a motive, step down, step down

Watch your heel crush, crush, uh oh

This means no fear, cavalier, renegade and steering clear

A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies

Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline

It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine) - REM

(Stipe, Mills, Buck, Berry)

The remainder of the drive involved turning up the volume, singing along with REM leader singer Michael Stipe, and having waves of memories from my college days flood back.

That’s how 'Top of Mind' works.

One second I’m not thinking about REM or my college days and the next second, something pops into my head and I’m suddenly thinking of some of my favorite people in the world.

What can successful salespeople do to make sure their name comes to mind?

When someone in your tribe hears the word “real estate” this week, will your name come to mind?

If a neighbor or fellow gym member or local parishioner from your church finds out they are being relocated, what’s gonna make they think of you?

"What will spark your name to rise above all others when someone is asked, 'Do you know a good Realtor?'"

Your tagline, slogan, or jingle? Your email signature? Your most recent newsletter, handwritten letter, or thank you note that landed in their mailbox? That last DM, shared post, or comment on social media?

This week, someone’s going to be flipping through the channels. Here’s hoping you’ve done enough to make them want to turn up the volume instead of looking for something better.
