Hey !, welcome to this weeks issue.

This Weeks Topic:

Confronting our tech addictions

This is something I don't normally broadcast, but I've been sober for over 5 years. That story is for another day, but one thing that first made me realize it was a problem was hearing the following qualification.

"Is the activity you are doing keeping you from accomplishing your dreams"

Another area that I see in my life and in society is our addiction to our digital devices. Like drugs or alcohol, our devices also are designed to be addictive to keep you coming back for more. Big tech's business model relies on people using their platforms as much as possible.

More attention = More Ads = More Revenue for them.

Once you realize that these distractions hijack your attention and keep you from achieving your goals, enjoying time with loved ones and even your quality of life, you need to make some changes. The deck is stacked against us, but here are a few things you can do to fight back.

Here are 10 Actionable ways to cut down on your screen time.

  1. Use Mindfulness: Without judging yourself, ask why you keep going for your devices, this is an inward, long lasting journey, so understanding why you do it is the most important part. Start to notice the pattern and ask why.
  2. Have Internet free hours: I usually kill my wifi for 90 minutes a day to get my most important work of the day done.
  3. Enable grayscale: This will make your phone less appealing and you
  4. Remove the addictive apps from your phone: You can still access them with the browser, but this will make you think twice before doom scrolling
  5. Use an app to block the addictive sites: I use Freedom and only allow myself 90 minutes a day for all forms of social media, that's plenty of time.
  6. Do a digital detox: No digital devices for one day
  7. Set timers on your apps: This is a great way to stay accountable.
  8. Remove the browser from your phone: This is extreme, but it works wonders for the easily distracted.
  9. Digital Fasting: You only use your devices during set hours like 8AM-8PM
  10. Embrace Boredom: This will help you build concentration and start to come up with your own ideas
