✨ Switch your focus to the *how* rather than the *what* ✨ A race-car team wanted to increase the speed that the pit crew could do maintenance (change the tyres, fuel the car, etc). They had tried telling the crew that they would be measured on their speed (the outcome) - but when the pit crew were instead told that they would be measured based on their *style* (they were told to 'think smooth') - that's when they improved. To improved their speed - they needed to stop focusing on their speed. Define your what - that's important, you need to make sure that you're hitting the right target - but then move your focus straight to the *how* - the process and present moment activities.
"Focusing on failures of willpower leads to shame, both public and private, and holds back our curiosity from finding and enacting solutions that actually work." - Brian Resnick Instead of pointing to a lack of discipline or willpower when you struggle or fail, embrace self-compassionate curiosity. Let questions come to your mind like: ☀️ I wonder why this isn't working ☀️ What might be stopping me from ____? ☀️ How could I make this easier for myself? ☀️ What could I do differently? In "A More Beautiful Question by Warren Berger" (Psst there's a book summary for this on Intention - you can download the app in my description!) - they mention a simple visual exercise. It's a table of squares, alongside this question: How many squares are there? The answers can range from 30 to 60 - all the way to infinity. They use this exercise to illustrate that we often fail to see all the possibilities available to us because we *simply haven’t spent enough time looking*. The exercise resonates most with people who are in a difficult situation: “Sometimes people feel like they have nowhere to go and they’ve run out of options, and my point is, ‘There is always another square, another possibility if you just keep looking for it." To embrace a life where you keep on looking: embrace self-compassionate curiosity - and stop focusing on failures of willpower.

✨ How to Avoid Overplanning ✨ "Developing tolerance for imperfection is the key factor in turning chronic starters into consistent finishers." - Jon Acuff Creating a detailed plan for your goals usually goes like this -> ☀️ 1 day after - You feel like an absolute goddess, you know exactly what's up every step of the way to get from point A to point B for your goal / project. ☀️1 month after - You feel detached from your plan, you've kind of forgotten about it, it feels a lil vague and fuzzy to you and you don't know what your next steps are even though you wrote out literally every step along the way when you initially made a plan. When you plan, all of your initial actions are clear and make sense and feel actionable! But as you move along and time passes, it all feels fuzzier and more overwhelming and you'll start to avoid the plan that you made. To avoid this, I like to: ☀️Create a really high level "plan" for my goals ☀️ Get REALLY clear on my immediate next actions - not my actions in three months time or twelve months time, but my *immediate* next actions ☀️ Revisit and revise my plans occasionally (like every month) Doing it this way helps you to avoid over planning and spending all your time organising the perfect Notion page, and then getting overwhelmed by planning to the point that you don't *do*. There's no need to make it a comprehensive 10-page long plan that acts as an avoidance mechanism instead of a helpful guide. Plan until you feel clarity on what you need to do to move forward, you have a high-level idea of how things might flow, and then - stop planning. Schedule a time to revisit and revise your plans if you need to. Then - start taking action.
I love seeing quotes that I've seen multiple variations of - said by different people at different times - and this is one of those quotes. (Here are two variations that I've saved - if you know of any similar quotes that say much the same thing please ~ let me know in the comments and I'll add it to my collection): "If you keep your mind resting against a problem in a friendly but consistent way, you'll be rewarded." - John Cleese "The mind, if preoccupied with a problem or question long enough, will tend to come up with possibilities that might eventually lead to answers" - Warren Berger This is a sign to keep your questions close, give your mind time and space for wandering and allow yourself to be open to answers.

☀️ I have some big news ☀️ I'm SO freaking excited to finally announce - Intention. My app focused on simple, actionable self-care and mindset exercises to integrate into your daily routine. So much of what I talk about is important, life-changing kind of stuff. Making better decisions, creating self-love, self-compassionate productivity - it's all essential. It's also the type of stuff that's really easy to listen to someone talk about and to get inspired by, and a lot harder to act on. So I decided to fill this app with exercises and activities that make it easier to take action. This will be a tool that you can use when you feel overwhelmed to get back to a space of calm, when you're in self-doubt or self-criticism to move to a place of self-kindness, when you're unclear to move into a space of clarity - through guided writing exercises, book guides, interactive activities, courses and eventually more - all created by myself. Right now, when you hop on to Intention you'll find a curated collection of exercises that will be built on over time - there's much more to come (I *cannot* wait for future content to be released). ☀️ Download Intention for iPhone and get a 40% off for an annual subscription (expiring in 7 days). Click the link in my bio to download the app. ☀️ Psst... ? Is it just for iPhone? For now - it's iPhone only. We'd love to and plan on expanding to Android in the future - but I want to make sure we get that move 100% right when we get there. ? How does the founding member pricing work? You'll have the discounted pricing applied forever, as long as you stay subscribed to the app ?
For a while I've felt that there was a resource missing when it comes to the self-growth content that I share. So I decided to fill the gap. I have a *really* exciting announcement to make, and it's coming soon. ⠀ The countdown ? is ? on.⠀
How have you been keeping your mind going in the right direction lately? ☀️ Whether it's a book you've been reading, thinking habits you've embraced, a meditation you've been practising, or a style of journaling. For me, despite the fact that learning is one of my values (and I've known this for yearsss), EVERY time I read a new book or take a new course and feel immediately more myself and more aligned - I'm oddly surprised. After I learn something new or learn something that changes my perspective on something old is when you'll see me at my most excited. The knock-on effects are that my friends also get to learn what I've learned (thankful to be surrounded by people who will isten to me ramble about whatever I'm excited about), I put whatever I'm learning into practice (forcing me to learn some more) and then, depending on what I'm learning, my whole community might learn bits and pieces too - !!!! - and that just makes me really happy and excited. More recently I took a course from Anette Prehn on reframing (Give "Anette Prehn Reframing" a google if you want to find it - there's a free version of the course in the first few results!) and finished "A More Beautiful Question" by Warren Berger and both things left me feeling so excited and inspired.
