The Last Lap
Two years ago, Alain de Cadenet passed away. If you are not familiar with him, he was one of the most fascinating characters in motorsport. Accordint to Wikipedia, he was "an English television presenter and racing driver. He was noted for racing in 15 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the 1970s and 1980s, achieving one podium finish with third place in 1976." But that really does not adequately describe the man.
If you want to learn more about one of motorsport's true renaissance men, check out Motorsport Magazine's "Playboy racer with a love for Le Mans: Alain de Cadenet" for a great insight into who he truly was and why.
"He decided to focus on Le Mans and after failing to buy a Ferrari 312PB from the factory decided to try to beat them with a car of his own construction. To design the first de Cadenet sports car he recruited a young designer at Brabham called Gordon Murray and, working in his spare time, Murray used some components from the F1 car to produce a machine which took them to 12th overall."
