Combat Winter Stress This Stress Awareness Day 🌧️

Nov 06, 2024 12:16 pm

Good morning,

Today is Stress Awareness Day and we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge something many of us may be feeling more keenly as winter approaches: stress often feels heavier during these darker, colder months. With shorter days and longer nights, feelings of pressure or worry can seem to linger and intensify.

In fact, the Mental Health Foundation reports that nearly 1 in 5 people feel more anxious during the winter, often due to reduced daylight and the toll it can take on our mood and energy levels. For those already managing stress, these seasonal changes can amplify their impact.

To help you navigate this season, here are some tips for combating winter stress:

1. Get Outdoors for Natural Light:

Even on cloudy days, getting outside for some daylight can help improve mood and energy. Aim for a short walk during daylight hours—just 10 to 15 minutes can make a difference.

2. Stay Active:

Physical activity is a great way to reduce stress and boost endorphins. If outdoor exercise isn’t ideal, try indoor activities like yoga, stretching, or at-home workouts.

3. Stay Connected:

Whether it’s a quick call, video chat, or in-person meetup, connecting with friends, family, or colleagues can ease stress and remind you that you’re not alone.

4. Be Mindful of Your Routine:

Try to maintain a regular sleep schedule and take time for activities that relax and recharge you, whether that’s reading, meditation, or spending time on a favourite hobby.
