What is Demolition Derby?

The next Felony Melanie book will feature Melanie competing in a demolition derby. Don’t know what that is? A demolition derby is a competition where drivers deliberately ram their vehicles into each other. The winner is the last driver whose vehicle is still operational. Does that sound like fun? Or are those drivers completely crazy? Or … both?

Southernism of the Week: Autumn around here is “As welcome as an outhouse breeze.”

Doug’s Rom Com of the Week: When Harry Met Sally… (1989)

Written by Nora Ephron, Directed by Rob Reiner

One of the wittiest romantic comedies, this film asks the question, can women and men be just friends? Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are lovable but realistically flawed people. Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby are great as their best friends. They all feel like people you might know, just a whole lot funnier. The dialogue crackles with quotable jokes. And then there’s that famous diner scene…

Southern Treat of the Week: Southern Living has a list of “The South’s Most Iconic Candy.” Kris doesn't like nuts, which eliminates a lot of these, but she might have to try Potato Candy. And we won't turn down Bourbon Balls!

Praise for Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium: Thanks to a reader for this review: “It's the backstory for Sweet Home Alabama that you didn't know you wanted. What were Melanie and Jake before they were married? A couple of teenagers with a penchant of getting into their share of trouble.”
