Doug’s Rom Com Faves: Roxanne (1987)

Written by Steve Martin, directed by Fred Schepisi

Roxanne updates the classic French play “Cyrano De Bergerac,” setting it in a small mountain town and featuring Steve Martin as a long-nosed fire chief who falls for Daryl Hannah’s Roxanne, but gets roped into helping a good-looking dummy win her heart. The original story is a classic for a reason, and this update adds even more jokes. The chemistry between the cast is fantastic. A must-see. (Kris agrees.)

Trivia: The first romantic comedy to win the Best Picture Academy Award was “It Happened One Night” in 1934. Have you seen that one?

Southernism of the Week: What's the difference between a northern fairytale and a southern fairytale? A northern fairytale begins, "Once upon a time..." A southern fairytale begins, "Y'all ain't gonna believe this..."

Kris’s friend Jodi Lea Stewart shared that humorous truth. Jodi writes books for young people and adults that "transport you into southern and southwestern adventures that tug at the soul and uplift the spirit." Her book Triumph just released: At a time when the world needs more warmth and acceptance, two little girls, Mercy and Annie, take us on a journey where color and race matters less than character and heart! Check out her books.
