I have terrific news this month! Besides my daylilies returning.

WHAT’S NEW

***My proposal was accepted and I have signed a 3-book contract with Rowan Prose Publishing for a cozy series that will be the Comfy Cat Mysteries. Comfy Cat is the title suggested by my daughter and I love it. The cat in question, is modeled after my son’s family cat, Daisy, an adorable floppy Rag Doll.

It’s set in Southwestern Michigan and will debut in 2026. Meanwhile, I had three novels to write. Well, two to write and one to finish. I’m excited to be doing cozies again.

This is a short story anthology, packed with goodness, by the TN group, the Harpeth River Writers. I was deeply honored to be asked to do a promotional blurb for it, and it’s listed right there, inside, top of the page.

WHAT I’M DOING

GOOD

***I mailed out a copy of the eclipse book, DARK OF THE DAY, to the winner from my last newsletter. Congratulations, Nikki Dolson!

***Sitting on the porch the other day, something I’d like to do more of, I turned on my Merlin App and it caught all these birds. I’m glad to finally catch the Bald Eagles, which I see all the time. They nest in some treetops I can see from my backyard.

OKAY

***I feel like I’m still recovering from the sepsis earlier this year, feeling tired a lot, and not liking—at all—the antibiotics I have to be on for a few more months. But I’m so thankful to the doctors who are shepherding me through this.

COMPLETELY SURPRISING

***When my knee kept feeling swollen and sore, I went to my new ortho to make sure it wasn’t infected, since that’s my fake knee, from 2008. He and I are both shocked that I have broken my kneecap! I thought my fake plastic kneecap was on top of my own patella bone, but I was wrong. It’s beneath it. Whenever I would bump my knee I would think, NBD, it’s all plastic and metal. But NO, that’s my own bone I’m bumping. And a piece broke off. There’s nothing to do, but some exercises to make sure those tendons are strong.

VERY GOOD

***Just to add interest, I got a new lens, cataract surgery. That went very well. It’s a simple procedure and I don’t think much can go wrong. As long as I don’t rub my itchy eye and do keep taking the stinging eye drops. New glasses next month, then it’ll all be perfect.

WHAT I SHOULD BE DOING

***Continuing to write Comfy Cat. But now I have a deadline, so it seemed like more of a job. An urgent job. Although I’m on track to meet my first deadline.

WHAT’S COMING UP NEXT

***MistiMedia is reissuing some of my favorite works later this year. These will include the orphaned Cressa Carraway Musical Mysteries, with a brand new third book; a new short story collection; and a fourth Imogene Duckworthy mystery. I don’t have covers yet, but you’ll see them here when I do have them. My People of the Wind Neanderthal series was reissued by them recently.

***A cover reveal in August for SOMEONE IS OUT THERE, my new suspense novel. Just before that, at the beginning of August, Dru Ann Love will publish A Day in the Life of a character from that novel. She’s a super friend to authors, as well as an author herself.
