V.3 N.41 "Why do race cars have brakes?" Days 1,044-1,060

Jan 09, 2022 5:34 pm

Good mornin', and happy January! I plan to keep writin' short notes "most" Sundays. Along the way, I'm supporting a couple of "asynchronous" Marco Polo groups to explore the experience of the human domain. For those of you in the #DrumCircle, jump over there and see what's new!

Heya ,

A group of us humans...being...together. Ok, here are some of my thoughts today:

  • Race cars have brakes...so that drivers can go faster.

  • Lights have switches...so that we can see more or take it all away.

  • Paintings have frames...so that artists freedom to create.

  • Books have covers...so that we know where to begin and when it ends.

  • Humans have emotions...so that we can feel together.

"What if" instead of seeing limitations (or, as in the case of emotions, unfavorable vulnerability), we focus on what that so-called limit gives us? My challenge is to be courageous enough to see the "so that..." on the other side.

By realizing there IS a limit, we can go faster, see what's there, feel free, create more, understand one another, and know when we're done. So that we can move on to the next thing we have to do.

I spent some time this morning reading two WILDLY different documents:

  1. An interview with Will Smith, discussing the very personalized role he felt playing "King Richard." Full transparency, I haven't seen the movie yet, but it's on the list. There's this thing called #dissertation...
  2. "8 Steps to Accelerate Change in Your Organization," an eBook/PDF by the Kotter org, published in 2018. Oh. Ehm. Jhee... EVERYTHING I need to know about WHY people/orgs don't change. RIGHT THERE!

Putting those two assets together on the whiteboard - that's how I think convergently/divergently and if you need some ideas on thinking differently, here you go: https://youtu.be/cyLj1bWT0lM?t=20 - I realized that all of it starts with my assumptions of what is possible, allowed, accepted, and/or "right."

Last week (thanks, Kevin!), one of our #DrumCircle members asked the community to talk about the concept of courage.

He asked, "What is it about this opportunity to be courageous...?"

Personally, I look forward to what #DrumCircle members say; and, if you have a thought and wanna hit reply, please share it with me. What's your #couragous these days?

Yours,

JW
