Instagram LogoWhen I got sick with an auto-immune disorder & my life dramatically shifted, It was scary... I had no control over anything in my external environment. My "normal kid" routine had been swept out from under me and no longer was I going to school, playing outside, hanging out with friends, getting my hands dirty outside. Instead, I was now a kid with a life-threatening illness. And people treated me like so... It felt like my whole "identity" changed, at least to other people. But on the inside, I felt like the same exact wild, curious, happy, fun-loving, adventurous kid. I wanted my normal life back but life said, "Nah, this is what I have for you instead." And eventually, it sunk in that all I had was the ability to control how I responded to this change. (And every change that would happen in the future) P.S - @your.genius.within (Danielle Sunberg) drives home this exact point so beautifully in this podcast clip from the latest episode. ??
Instagram LogoI used to wake up, walk my dog, make some coffee, and then the rest of my day was... up in the air… I knew (sort of) what needed to get done & what was important, but really I had no plan. I’d fall behind, I would miss some important tasks, and sometimes I’d “get done” early but instead of knowing exactly what I could be doing next, I just chilled & watched Netflix. It stressed me out! I felt lazy even though I was tired from doing what felt like a lot of work. I was being “busy”... not productive. Ultimately, I cracked the code through a lot of experimentation. I figured out how to prioritize my day(s) in advance so I could get a TON of sh*t done, while still feeling amazing. It goes like this: Make a list of the things that need to get done. Assign different “levels” to each thing. - Level 1 Priority = High Importance + High Reward (ROI) + Pretty Easy to Complete - Level 2 Priority = Easy to complete + Important - Level 3 Priority = High Importance + High Reward + Takes a while to complete/focus Here’s how to actually use this: Level 1 = Get it done ASAP. Level 2 = Get it done soon (today), but not right this minute. Level 3 = You’ll want to make (block) time for this in order to get it done well.
Instagram LogoIf you can think differently, more expansively, creatively… It will be 100x easier to solve any problems or hurdles that come across your path. You won’t be limited by the restraints, limitations, or walls you place within your own mind :O Anything then becomes a possibility! Something to be tested experimented and played with. (It doesn’t mean that every idea or thought you have to solve the problem you face will be good, but it does mean that you’re allowing yourself to think limitlessly.) This is how the iPhone was created. This is how Einstein thought. This is how innovation is born. Curiosity is the key to expansive thinking. And there’s 1 really easy practice you can start doing today to strengthen that creative muscle: 1 - Get curious about your everyday life… Your routines, how you pour your coffee in the morning, why the clouds are shaped that way, the way that the light shines through your windows, the different people during your morning commute, etc… As you do this more often & over long stretches of time, you’re training your brain to see things in a new way, a creative way. Then when it comes down to brainstorming for work or a project, BAM… You’re an innovative thinking machine.
Instagram Logothe simplest way to reach your current goal is not rocket science, although I can see how sometimes it feels that way. (Making things complicated is fun) The breakdown is this: Say "yes" to a habit or an action that feeds your highest self. All that actually exists in life is the current moment(s)... So when you say yes to your highest self, you move from one moment (staying the same) to the next moment (someone who said yes to their highest self) which brings you to a whole new "destination" in this thing called space-time. Each one of these new "destinations" are like pit stops & smaller towns along the road trip to your big dream/goal/desire. But if you don't say yes (over and over and over again), you won't make it to those places. And if you don't make it to those places, are you really going anywhere? Say yes to the things that give fuel to your dreams… Before ya know it, you’ll look back on that winding road you just took and stand in awe at the place it’s taken you to.
Instagram LogoYa know what isn’t about gaining attention and persuading people to want to buy your sh*t? Marketing. It’s about connection. Resonating with people in a way that feels right. Creating a bond between you and your ideal community that’s been built on trust, empathy, value and whatever else makes you...you. That connection comes through via the TOOLS that are used for marketing: Content, social media, networking, email… But those tools aren’t the connection builders themselves. The connection building begins with a deep understanding of these 3 things: 1 - What are the emotions felt when seeing // hearing // reading your content? 2 - What impact do you want to have on your ideal community? 3 - What ideas // thoughts // feelings // knowledge… does your ideal community resonate with most? Then the tools you use will work a lot better with a lot less effort. P.S - Not sure what exactly is happening in the first photo, maybe too much caffeine
Instagram LogoEach time that we choose to give up, quit, stop pursuing, we’re weakening the trust we have with ourselves & building up a habit of quitting… It might seem small within the moment, it might feel like “procrastination”, but as you do it over and over and over again, it becomes second nature. As @nakedwarriorrecovery William Branum (retired Navy Seal) and I chatted during our podcast episode together, he shared the relationship he has with failure & the act of quitting. (spoiler: it’s a d*mn healthy relationship) The key to discipline & continuing to drive forward in the face of discomfort or difficulty is celebrating small wins. Anything you can do to push towards your next closest victory will help keep you going. If you have dreams, aspirations, goals, big plans, desires… Get after them. You deserve them. It won’t be a walk in the park to reach them, but with consistency, you’re bound to accomplish anything & everything you want. P.S - Thanks William (@nakedwarriorrecovery) for sharing your rad stories with me & helping other people stay motivated & driven to live more life :)
Instagram LogoAdios, I’ll be back at some point... This week I’m putting all of my focus and energy into coaching to the best of my ability. Making sure to take more time out of the week to have fun and fuel my passions. I say this not because I think someone is gonna give a single f*ck about me not posting for a week, lol… I say this to remind others that even though we may have routines, rituals, or rules to help us grow; they’re meant to be flexible. I’m flexing mine so that I can come back stronger, more energized, focused, and creative <3 Peace out.
Instagram LogoIt’s been taught all wrong… “Work hard at whatever you do and you be successful” Sure, working hard is important. But it’s not what makes you successful. That phrase has put a “stink” around the idea of play. The idea that if you’re playing, you’re not being productive. You’re not as useful to the workforce or society because you’re too silly or frivolous. Play does quite the opposite! It makes you MORE productive, focused, fulfilled, and allows you to embody what makes you most unique. Let that shine & you’ll attract people who want to pay attention, who want to know more, who want to help you accomplish goals. But we stop ourselves a lot of the time because we’re afraid and we push it off until “later” (which never comes or comes too late)... As Mike Montague says in this podcast clip ☝?, it’s the people & companies who let their playful side shine that are the most successful. P.S - Thank you Mike for coming on to my podcast, having a damn good time, and shedding some light on the importance of play :)
Instagram LogoHigh performance in one area = High performance in all other areas of your life. Try not to focus on growth in 10 different places. Scale it down to 1. Directing your focus into too many places at once can spread your energy too thin. Leaving you feeling drained, less productive, and can slow the pace of growth. It might seem counterintuitive to limit your radius of focus, but life doesn’t actually separate the various aspects of your day-to-day… Your work may feel separate from your personal life, but it’s not. Your alone time may feel separate from your time with friends or family, but it’s not. We’re the ones that put these invisible barriers between these parts of our life because as humans we like to compartmentalize. But what happens in one area of your life directly affects ALL the other areas. Want more growth in your relationship? Solely focus on the aligned actions that are going to speed up that process. You’ll notice growth in your work, your alone time will feel more special, your creativity will rise… Aligned focus in one area = Aligned growth
Instagram LogoYou've EARNED the opportunities that have been given to you & have shown up in front of your face. Don't second guess that. You are talented enough. Skilled enough. Smart enough. Creative enough. Worthy enough. Tough enough. Own it. Work it. Channel your inner Beyoncé. Do whatever you need to in order to realize that the fear, questioning, worry that you feel inside is not your true nature... It's the process of unlearning all the bullsh*t that society and/or other people have told you that what you have isn't enough and that you need to be/do/work more. Life doesn't give you things that you can't handle. P.S - Thank you @leadogo.ca for having me on as a panelist for this conversation about women at work. Can't wait for the next one <3
