AI Tools That Save Me Time + Bone Health Checklist

Hi ,
I hope you are doing well. As promised last week, I’m sharing some of the AI tools that have saved me hours and helped me get more done with less frustration. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look:
1. Ambient AI Notetaker for Patient Consultations
This has been the biggest time-saver in my practice. An ambient AI note-taker listens in on consultations and automatically generates clinical notes—without requiring manual typing. These tools are designed specifically for medical use and come with built-in privacy safeguards, including HIPAA compliance and secure data handling.
Most of my consultations are online, and I want to stay fully engaged with my patients without being distracted by typing and relying on memory to reconstruct the visit later. I love that I can customize the note templates and that it retains context from previous visits.
2. ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity for Writing and Thinking Out Loud
I prefer speaking over writing. I’m not a writer, but I do enjoy sharing my knowledge. These tools help me express my thoughts more clearly and make my writing easier to understand.
Most of the time, I dictate into the app, and ChatGPT works in the background to refine what I’ve said. This email was created in this manner—I spoke most of it aloud, and the AI helped turn it into something readable. Then I edited.
3. Creating Checklists with ChatGPT + Notion
I love checklists (I suspect many of you do too). While writing the chapter on bone health for my women’s health book (not published yet), I decided to create a Bone Health Risk Checklist. What surprised me was how quickly I could build it using ChatGPT and Notion. ChatGPT generated a Markdown (.md) file that I could import directly into Notion. It still took a few formatting tweaks, but it saved hours of work.
That said, AI tools aren’t flawless. For example, ChatGPT included both heparin and warfarin as medications affecting bone density—even though only long-term heparin use is associated with bone loss. It also overlooked important risk factors, such as high parathyroid hormone levels and the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. That’s a reminder: we need to verify everything AI generates.
4. NotebookLM and Gemini Deep Research Tools
When I’m reading complex articles, NotebookLM has become one of my favourite tools. It helps me analyze academic papers, ask questions, synthesize insights, and generate helpful audio and video summaries.
One recent example: the paper “Brain Control of Energy Homeostasis: Implications for Anti-Obesity Pharmacotherapy” (Cell, 2025). This would have taken me hours to dissect manually. NotebookLM helped me reach the key points more quickly. I will include a link to the video overview at the bottom of this email.
5. Slide Decks with Manus
Creating presentations used to take a lot of time. For example, when preparing a talk on women and cardiovascular disease, I’d have to open six or seven past PowerPoint decks, search through each to find relevant images, recall what I had said the last time, and then rebuild the new deck slide by slide.
With Manus, that process is simpler. I describe the topic, the images I need (which must be copyright-free and publicly available), and the message I want to convey. While I work on something else, Manus creates a draft slide deck. I still review and edit it—but it eliminates the back-and-forth between folders, saving me a lot of time.
6. And One More Thing: My AI Voice
Recording videos has never come naturally to me—I freeze when I don't have an audience. I decided to try cloning my voice using ElevenLabs, and it has helped me produce short audio clips without having to record them live each time. But editing the script and audio has taken time. I am still learning.
My process of turning those voice clips into videos or embedding them into slide decks is not yet fully streamlined. I am working on it. I’ll include a sample clip on stroke risk factors at the end of this email.
These tools aren’t perfect, and yes—they do make mistakes. They help me save time and learn faster.
My biggest frustration has been with creating images from text. I have to remember that this is the worst these tools will ever be. With time, we will both get better.
I’d love to hear about the AI/LLM tools that are helping you — which ones feel magical, and which ones are frustrating.
Best regards,
Shabnam
