What do successful people do instead of resolutions?

Hey ,
How’s it working out for you?
Is it still effective now — 19 days into 2025? Or, have you already fallen off?
Don’t beat yourself up too much if you’ve already abandoned yours. Research shows that 23% of people give up their New Year’s resolutions before the end of week 1. And 43% have already shifted gears (or lost where the clutch is) by the end of January.
Not that making a New Year’s resolution is bad, but maybe there’s a better way. A way that you can spur yourself forward all year long. A way that lasts longer than your first strength cycle of the year.
It’s not too late to try the system I learned from Noah Kagan eight years ago. It’s not a resolution as much as it is a reminder that will impact all aspects of your life.
It’s the Word Of The Year.
What is one word you can remind yourself of daily, that will help you take the actions of the person you want to become? It’s the one word you can use as an anchor to help in your decision making and the way you view the world — whether you're lifting in the gym or working late one day.
My W.O.T.Y. for 2025 is Simplify. It’s so easy to make things complicated - solutions to problems, explanations for people’s actions, your training program, how you cross hatch the lawn with your new mower on Sunday afternoons. This year I’ll be asking myself - How can I make this simple. What would this look like if it was easy? Is there a more simple way to do this?
Last year I cheated and used two words, follow through. The reminder was to tie up loose ends and avoid dead ends.
The last tip for your W.O.T.Y. is to put it in your face everyday. I set a reminder on my phone for 4:30 am daily that just says “Simplify.” Every day I have to check that box. Some people make it their wallpaper instead of the reminder.
What about you? What’s your Word Of The Year?
Seriously, reply and tell me.
Be great,
Danny Lehr
