have you learned this yet?

Hey ,

It’s funny, because some people love it.

And it seems like the type of thing I could really get into.

Outside.

Physical activity.

Progress you can see.

Despite all the usual “enjoyment” boxes being checked, I’d rather squeeze a lemon directly into my eye than mow the lawn.

But alas, our yard guy quit last month. And with my kids getting to a reasonable yard-work-as-a-chore age, it’s time to take on the fatherly task so I can force it upon them, ensuring they also hate it enough when they are adults to continue the cycle.

Buying a mower/edger/blower 3-pack delivered to my front door, I need to learn how to navigate the new world of battery operated lawn barbering before teaching the kids.

And that’s when it happened. I decided I would enjoy it.

Instead of doing it just to get it done, I would pay special attention to the details. I would focus on the little things. The minutiae of mowing. And through that focus and attention, I noticed how damn good the lawn looks! And here is the take-away:

Your ability and enjoyment is 100% correlated to the attention you give any task.

What is it for you? What do you struggle with as you begrudgingly slog through the motions of?

Try giving it more attention, lean into the details. And see if it can turn from a dreaded task, to a maybe-not-enjoyable-but-at-least-not-quit-so-dreaded task.

Be great,

Danny Lehr

P.S. I also have to trim our rose bushes—so fitting, with Valentine’s Day coming up. C&K just dropped a few limited-edition February-themed tees, available in relaxed and athletic fits. Check them out here.
