Hi !

As we step into November, it’s a lovely time to reflect on gratitude and its positive effects on our well-being and even our gut health. Practising gratitude can influence our mindset, boost immunity, and contribute to a balanced gut! Try incorporating simple gratitude exercises this month, whether it’s jotting down three things you’re grateful for each day or using a moment of mindfulness to appreciate a nourishing meal.

Here are a few suggestions to help make gratitude a daily habit:

  • Gratitude Journaling: Each morning, write three things you’re grateful for. This exercise is a small but powerful way to shift your focus to the positive.
  • Mindful Eating Practice: Take a moment to appreciate the flavours, textures, and health benefits of your meals, especially when enjoying nutrient-dense or fermented foods.
  • Evening Reflection: Reflect on the day’s highlights. These small moments of gratitude can support emotional and physical health by lowering stress and increasing satisfaction.

Book Recommendation: Attached by Amir Levin & Rachel Heller

This month’s book pick is Attached by Amir Levin and Rachel Heller. This eye-opening book dives into attachment styles and how they shape our relationships. It’s a fascinating and insightful read, especially for those interested in personal growth and understanding emotional patterns. Whether for yourself or in helping clients, Attached provides tools to navigate and improve your connections with others.

Celebrating Martinmas

November also brings us Martinmas, a time for celebrating light and warmth as the days grow shorter. Traditionally, people mark Martinmas by making lanterns, often by carving a swede or turnip. Not only can you make a beautiful light, but you can also enjoy a comforting bowl of swede soup afterwards!

Here’s a simple recipe to try:

Hearty Swede Soup

Ingredients:

  • 1 large swede (diced)
  • 1 carrot (chopped)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 3 cups broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the onion and garlic in a large pot until soft.
  2. Add the swede, carrot, and broth. Bring to a boil, then let it simmer for about 30 minutes or until veggies are tender.
  3. Blend until smooth, season to taste, and garnish with fresh herbs.

This warm, nourishing soup is perfect for the chilly autumn evenings!
