What are your ghosts trying to keep you from?

#491 – What are your ghosts trying to keep you from?

Learning curves are often winding, swerving, with deep troughs after high peaks. I know it, and yet, I didn't recognize it when it happened.

First it was the Ghost of Time Indifference who, very rationally, convinced me that hey, you don't have time! It seemed true. The time-keeping app on my screen, big-brothering my every keystroke, made me put my head down and just work, work, work, with a sense of hollow obedience. So I believed the ghost: yeah, I don't have time to write.

Then, if I managed to squeeze a few minutes and write one of these notes, the Ghost of Idea Deflection, perched on my right shoulder, very gallantly muttered, but what value are you giving your readers, anyway? You're writing your stuff so quickly that it can't be that insightful.

Oh, that sounded true. Yeah, at least one hour per piece! That would make them worthy, not the meager 25-30 minutes I was putting in.

Meanwhile, I was getting sadder and sadder. When, a couple nights ago, I didn't feel like brushing my teeth, I knew something was wrong (I'm a tooth-brushing freak).

This morning, I finally got it: I was running on the track, focusing on the sensation of my soles against the socks, and I realized what was going on.

The ghosts had come back with such strength after almost losing the battle, and I was so confident I’d won, that I didn’t think it could be them. I thought it was me.

But no, I hadn't lost my creativity or desire to write. I was letting the ghosts lead.

What ghosts in your life will you reclaim your power from?

Love,

Carolina
