#24–Where will the Ghost of Not Following Up take you?

Nowhere.

Rationally, you know you need to follow up. Rationally, you're clear on all the steps you need to take. Rationally, you have no problem doing it.

But then you don't.

Because when it's time to follow up, the Ghost of Not Following Up fills your head with thoughts such as:

• it's useless anyway––I'm sure the position has been filled by now
• who'd want to do business with me anyway?
• they're not going to remember me––who would? I'm insignificant
• they said to call them back to get rid of me in the moment––they really don't want to hear back from me
• what if they say no? It'll be proof that I'm worthless––I'd rather not know
• what if they say yes? I won't do a good job––I'd rather not risk failing

Needless to say, these thoughts are real––meaning, they exist in your head. But they're just lies.

Because the only real information you have is that someone said to follow up with them.

If you don't, you'll never know where you could've gotten.

When have you not followed up and then regretted it?
