#23–When the Ghost of Stability Boredom takes over

A very effective way in which we, underearners, sabotage our earning potential is by creating unnecessary chaos when life feels easy.

In 2019, when I was finally getting a hang of my work at the consulting firm in New York––and actually getting a hang of this country––I decided to shake things up. Because, why not?

Less than five years after having landed in the US as immigrants, I decided to relocate my family from New Jersey to Miami.

My husband had to quit his job. My son, who'd finally started to make friends, had to start over.

And me? I endangered (and ended up killing) my working relationship with the company I worked for.

But I justified my decision: if I were to take care of the LatAm market for my company, what better place than Miami?

The reality is that the sudden move became the perfect reason to not pay attention to my work. To not develop more trust with my boss and clients. To not, if I'm being honest, step up and live up to my boss's expectation of me.

And with all that, to not continue to build wealth.

What people call "shiny object syndrome" is in fact the working of the Ghost of Stability Boredom.

Its only purpose? To keep us broke.

When was the last time you created chaos in your life for no good reason?

Love,

Carolina
