#22–Our deepest source of freedom

Money gives us freedom, true.

But if we want to "use" our freedom, we need to embody our personal power, the only true power.

And that's in us––unless we give it away.

In his book, The Undoing Project, Michael Lewis recounts the friendship between the fathers of behavioral economics, Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky.

According to the book, one of the most salient traits of Tversky's personality was his absolute freedom. He always gave himself permission to:

  • decline invitations to events he didn't want to attend (even when they were supposedly "good" for his visibility and career as a researcher)
  • end conversations whenever he no longer wanted to engage in them
  • strip to his underwear and go for a run around his university department any time he felt like it

Did he have money? Not particularly.

What he had was an unbreakable connection with his personal power.

Sometimes my connection with my own personal power gets spotty. Then it's as though I were looking for an external power supply––what a mistake, because the only thing I need to do is listen to myself and act upon my desires.

Without calculation.

When do you find your power connection gets spotty?

Love,

Carolina
