Home is where the hART is.
A variety of ART comes to life at Friend of Friends CafΓ© & Listening Bar in my hometown of National City. I took a picture of this mural above the shelves that hold the vinyl at the listening bar. Discover the art of coffee roasting and preparation, the culinary arts program on display in the burger menu, and the greenery that breathes life into this new space. I fell into a VIP tour from the owner on a day they were closed, so I look forward to coming back to tase it all. This is #NotAnAd - just cool people doing cool things. Go check em out, but not on a Tuesday :D

Are you looking for a cool thing to do this month? My friend Lourans Mikhail's solo art show "Different StrokesToo!" opens at Thumbprint Gallary tonight! The fun goes from 4 - 9 PM with cool door prizes for the first 20 guests, and his work is on display for the rest of the month. "Different StrokesToo!" is the sequel to Lourans' signature paintbrush series where we reimagine common paintbrushes in uncommon ways and they come to life to deliver a unique message to viewers. He says: With my series βDifferent Strokes,β I invite the viewer to join me on a journey of the imagination. Here, the lowly everyday paintbrush is re-imagined, no longer isolated to the role of a mere tool for art-making, but rather elevated to the status of a masterpiece itself. Through the incorporation of end products from lipstick, bullets, cigarettes, light bulbs, and syringes, these create the narrative while replacing the bristles of the brush. Ultimately I invite the viewer to seek and stimulate a new perspective, one that challenges the social, political, and economic constructions that have been marketed to us." I'm excited to see what's in store for us!
HOMEWORK: π

Are you a reader? I'm doing my best to become one. I've recently met other readers with amazing book recommendations from their summer reading list, and that's when I remember "Good Reads" the app/website designed to help you track the books you want to read, are reading, have read, and even recommend. Good Reads has a social component that allows you to connect and follow friends to see what they're reading and read their public reviews on their profiles. If you're already on Good Reads, let's connect. In all honesty, I abandon it quite frequently but it's always nice coming back to update reading lists, update progress, and see my friends' literary likes (and dislikes).
THANK YOU for reading this edition and for making it all the way to the end (this piece does change! ha), I am truly grateful for your attention. I hope you enjoyed today's POCHO Stuff Email. See ya next week, have an incredible weekend!
Con amor,
