It's PRIDE weekend in San Diego. The Pride Parade and festival celebrates 50 years, the oldest gay bar in San Diego turns 100 this year, and I hit the 1-year mark of getting laid off, more on that below. Let's get right into today's

This image and others were used by the cannabis company my husband previously worked for in their PRIDE365 campaign where they featured real employees who were members of the LGBTQ+ community. It still makes me smile.

OPTIMISM: πŸ’–

"Being gay is like glitter. It never goes away."

COOL FIND: πŸ•΅πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ

Did you know that The Hole is celebrating a century of pride and community as San Diego’s oldest gay bar. I found this fun read that dives into the rich history and legacy of this iconic establishment as it marks its 100th anniversary. Read or listen the full story here. Cheers to 100 years of inclusivity and love! πŸ₯‚πŸŽ‰

HOMEWORK: πŸ“

LinkedIn update. Last week I shared a LinkedIn Optimization Guide that got some praise from POCHOs looking to update their professional online profile. Today I wanted to assign a simple login, log into (or create) your LinkedIn account, not a social media account we think of very often but it can be helpful to your career. While you're there let's connect on LinkedIn. Easy enough, good luck! πŸš€

OTHER STUFF: πŸ“’

A year ago this week I was laid off from my ad agency job with Neil Patel LATAM due to budget, it's hard to believe how quickly time flies while underemployed. In this time I've been able to work with nonprofits near and dear to my heart, like Ocean Connectors in San Diego and Nayarit, Mexico. I supported three live theatre events with BocΓ³n and TuYo Theatre, as well as helped my buds in LA promote a movie premiere in San Diego. I've also partnered with lawyers, dentists, and winery owners to help manage their online reputation with software and services that I've been developing. I have also been fortunate enough to launch and scale the POCHO Stuff email which has allowed me to stay connected with friends, family, and professional colleagues all of which have a similar pocho-cultural affinity. Best of all, we've helped each other with everyday tips and tricks. Today I'm more ready than ever for full-time employment and I once again turn to our POCHO Community for help with a BONUS TIP of the WEEK:

Today we’re focusing on career development and landing your next role. I reached out to friends who are talented recruiters to ask them to share their top tips for job seekers this summer. Here’s their expert advice:

🌐 Leverage Networking

My friend from high school "Skittles" Jennie Gonzalez, an Executive Recruiter at Volt, emphasizes the power of networking: "Networking can be incredibly beneficial for looking for a job. It provides you access to hidden opportunities. Many job openings are never publicly advertised." Networking opens doors to opportunities that might not be listed on job boards, connects you with advocates, and offers valuable insights and information.

πŸ“ Optimize Your CV with Keywords

Our good friend in CDMX, Marifer Guirado, a bilingual Human Capital professional at AMS, advises: "En tu CV usa palabras claves de el puesto que quieras. Para que salgas en las bΓΊsquedas de los reclutadores." Use specific keywords related to the job you want in your CV to appear in recruiter searches, increasing your chances of getting noticed.

πŸ’¬ Be Assertive on LinkedIn

My muse, friend, and wedding officiant Jenn Bowers, a Solutions Manager and Recruiter for Apple at TSG, suggests: "Take an assertive approach on LinkedIn. Identify your dream jobs and reach out directly to potential hiring managers rather than HR." Treat your job search like a sales process: research thoroughly and craft personalized messages to potential hiring managers to stand out and get their attention

πŸ“Œ My POCHO Takeaway

"Enhance your job search by networking, optimizing your CV with keywords, and proactively reaching out to hiring managers on LinkedIn." These tips will help you stand out and secure your next role.

Stay tuned for more career tips in next weeks POCHO Stuff email. Until then, connect with the pros above, implement their strategies and move closer to landing your dream job!

As always THANK YOU for opening these emails, I am truly grateful. I hope you enjoyed today's BTW and POCHO Stuff Email. Have a fantastic weekend!
