👋🏽 Hey there !

Spring is doing its thing everywhere, like in my pic from CDMX, the accordion is making a comeback in my headphones. This week’s edition is all about growth, roots, and the little phrases that somehow shape us forever. Let’s get into this week's...

P.O.C.H.O. Stuff Email

Algo bien for a fun Friday.

Edition: May 8th, 2026

PICTURE: 📸

I took a picture on one of my favorite streets to walk in Mexico City, Calle Amsterdam. 🌿 Even now that we’re fully into spring, this street (and honestly most of the city) stays green year-round. A good reminder that some places seem determined to keep growing.

OPTIMISM: 💖

A reminder that beginnings don’t define the ending:

“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.”

— Nido Qubein

COOL FIND: 🕵🏽‍♂️

Latino USA just dropped a beautiful conversation with my ultimate fronteriza Julieta Venegas about her new album, memoir, and what it means to be a norteña shaped by both sides of the border. From loving The Cure and Juan Gabriel, to picking up the accordion while writing angsty ’90s songs, it’s a thoughtful listen on identity, music, and growing up between cultures.image

HOMEWORK: 📝

Spanglish Preservation 🗣️ Teach someone (anyone, coworker, kid, adult, neighbor) one Spanish word or phrase you grew up hearing at home. Maybe it’s “ándale,” “qué flojera,” or “ponte las pilas.” Keep your family vocabulary alive.

OTHER STUFF: 📢

Any fellow lo-fi lovers out there? 🎧🌵 During work hours, these kinds of mixes absolutely carry me through deep-focus mode. Lately I’ve been hooked on Norte & Chill—a super niche but very pocho-coded corner of YouTube that blends traditional norteño sounds (accordion, bajo sexto, all the soul) with mellow lo-fi beats. Think dusty desert-night energy made for studying, driving, journaling, or locking in on your inbox.

It’s oddly comforting hearing regional Mexican melodies flipped into calm background music. 👉 Take a listen to the Norteño Lo-fi mix and let me know if this genre should officially enter the canon.

Whether you’re preserving family vocabulary, wandering green city streets, or discovering your new favorite lo-fi genre, I hope you find small ways to stay connected to where you come from. Hasta la próxima, pochos. 🌿🎧✨
