Here is a personal one from my wedding a year ago this weekend:
At our wedding, we elected to honor our dearly departed and extended the invitation to all of our guests to include their loved ones in our Dia de Muertos Ofrenda, displayed near the entrance to our wedding venue. The altar came alive with offerings, flowers, and candles as part of the tribute to the 28 individuals pictured, and the four furry friends who crossed over the rainbow bridge to leave our world but not our hearts. Guests gave us such lovely feedback--the entire weekend was a love-fest. #TONICnLOVE
OPTIMISM: 💖
A lovely quote from a leader:
“In the face of impossible odds, people who love this country can change it.”
— Barack Obama
COOL FIND: 🕵🏽♂️
Back on the block!
While in San Diego I found out that the highly acclaimed Tuétano Taquería is back, now in downtown Chula Vista's --Third Avenue.
Tuetano's founder Chef Priscilla Curiel got attention from both sides of the border when her taqueria was honored by the Michelin Guide in 2020 (what a year). The San Ysidro shop moved to Old Town San Diego and has now found a new home in ChulaJuana next to Chef Priscilla's other baby, Mujer Divina --the burritos and coffee shop that launched in National City! Wheew, you're all caught up now.
HOMEWORK: 📝
Cultural Cuisine Challenge: Challenge family members to cook a dish from a different culture than their own. Not comfortable crossing borders and cultures? Try a new or more challenging dish like birria, mole, or guac. Ha!
OTHER STUFF: 📢
Winner winner! I wanted to shout out a dear friend and fellow entrepreneur's theatre-centric bilingual blog and YouTube channel: From Another Zero
I've always admired Alejandra Enciso's work in PR and was excited to see her creative approach to journalism honored by the San Diego Press Club this week. Five awards total including two first-place prizes for her stories, reviews, and conversations shared across the blog, podcast, and videos. Here's a throwback to 2020 when I was invited to be on the Desde Otro Zero - podcast. ¡Felicidades Alehandra!
