Sex Positive You: Issue 43
Hi loves,
As I write this, I'm flying to St. Louis, MO to attend the AASECT conference for the first time. Before heading to AASECT, I stopped by NYC to spend a weekend with my fabulous little sister (and saw others) – I love family time which is harder to come by since I left NYC in 2019.
Since the last newsletter, I’ve talked about the following on Substack and Instagram:
- 5 Tips for Increasing Comprehension (instead of conflict or empty communication) ---> Bilingual IG version
- Say what you need to say ---> IG version
- I write for me (reflective musing)
- IG meme collection
- What you should do when someone with a vulva says they are close to orgasm
- unique love languages
- released a new "Try a Card" Tuesday
- and more!
A new research article (where I'm the second author) also came out! Critical Consciousness and Sex Positivity: Opinions on Race Play within Alternate Sexuality Communities. If you don't have access through an institution, you can get a free copy here. If you want to share with others, download the PDF and email it! This will help the free link reach more people as it's limited to the first 50 users.
Paid Research Study
I was interviewed recently for a (paid) dissertation study on non-monogamous Latinas. If you are one or know any, Idalia is still collecting surveys! You can check your eligibility here, visit nonmonogamystudy.com, or contact Idalia Maciel at ivmaciel@umich.edu.
Let's support this important research and amplify the voices of our diverse community!
Upcoming Workshops
I am hosting workshops at two upcoming conferences!
- Midwest Love Fest on August 18th
- Sex Down South from Sept 4-7th
You can get 10% off Midwest Love Fest and $65 off Sex Down South with the code “YAEL.”
Want me to host something near you?
If you want me to do a workshop in your area, let me know! I plan to be stateside from August 12th – early October and will be hitting up Bloomington Indiana, Indianapolis, Atlanta, New York City, and Cookeville, Tennessee before hopefully heading to Puerto Rico for a bit. Plus, if you refer me for a paid gig, I offer a 5% commission from the profits (or donate that percentage if you prefer not to or can’t accept a commission). I also do private events if you want to hire me for your bachelorette party, sorority group, yoga community, etc.
Coaching Openings
I have openings for two new clients starting June 24th. Learn more here.
Until next time,
Yael
P.S. Remember, you don't have to, and can't, save the world on your own. However, each day is an opportunity to do something.
- ESIMs are still needed! Currently, they are collecting to help Gazans engage in remote learning.
- World Central Kitchen is preparing food for folks in Gaza, Brazil (recent flooding), and other locations
- DC’s Harm Reduction Home is seeking funds to keep HIPS' building
- Queer Black femme is seeking support to put down a security deposit on a new apartment
- Flood relief efforts in Brazil
What resources do you know of to share to support those in Sudan and the Congo and other places?

Sex, Intimacy, & Relationship Coaching
I can help you build up your confidence, communication skills, and understanding of yourself, work with you and a partner, or speak with a small group!
It's never too early or too late to learn more about yourself. If you're feeling lost, seeking confidence, or just finding a footing in new communities, I would be honored to help you on that journey.
