Yesterday we talked about the 3 major sins that Tribemasters MUST NOT commit.
We avoid those 3 sins because as Tribemasters we bias intelligence over stupidity.
I don't know if you know this but stupid comes dressing in multiple different way - the only way to recognize it and not be caught up by it, is to be clear about what you want and deliberately choose not to commit the three sins.
So Whilst the 3 sins can help you not be stupid...
How do you consistently act intelligently?
Well that's were what I'm sharing with you today comes into play.
Stepping into the Arena is a metaphor we use in Tribemasters for focused deliberate action.
It's okay to consume content but watching a video and stepping into the arena to act on what you've learned are two totally different things.
And so the rules are very different.
Here are the rules that govern Tribemasters when we step into the arena:
1. YOUR DATA IS THE ONLY DATA THAT MATTERS
What is the point of data?
Well in this context - it's to help you justify or decide on behavior change.
The only data that can properly inform you of how you should modify your behavior is your data.
For example you may ask:
“If I follow this strategy how many calls will I book?”
or
“If I start 100 conversations, how many will buy my $3k program?
or
“If I say that to my wife, how will she respond?”
The only appropriate answer is “go do it and find out”
Why?
Because if I answered any of the questions above using my data or stats..
It really doesn't take into account the reality of your situation and so can't really inform your behavior.
If you did X and the outcome was Y - that is the reality for you, right now.
And you can only make decisions from where you are, right now.
If you don’t have the data, don’t ask questions about other people’s data.
Go get it yourself…
That's why the first 90days of working with me is about collecting data - knowing your everyday truth.
You can come in touting a 100 percent level of commitment to a future...
But we only know the truth by what you actually commit to doing and your behavior over a defined period of time.
2. YOUR REALITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINION
You sell classes where you teach people how to have orgasms every time people wink at you.
Every Saturday, droves of orgasm hungry people meet you at your training spot, pay for the class, and ask if they can bring their friends. #sideeye.
It’s a growing business that you love, so you decide to invest in a business coach.
Your business coach tells you that people won’t buy wink inspired orgasms for long and there is no way that will grow and suggests a different offer entirely.
What should you trust….?
Your evidence that people will and do pay for wink inspired orgasms and the number is growing or the opinion of someone else?
When an outside opinion conflicts with your reality…
Your evidence trumps their theory until proven otherwise and even then...
Your experience should never be discounted, because it’s real for you.
So personally I tell my people - feel free to jump. If you fall I'll catch you.
Now don't get it twisted - there is a place for the experience of a mentor and there are fundamentals that account for everything.
3. YOU MUST ACKNOWLEDGE & ACCOUNT FOR TIME AND LUCK.
Time will pass and luck exists.
Things move.
Values change,
Good decisions can have poor outcomes and poor decisions can have positive outcomes.
Unlike a a coaching session or a class environment or watching a video...
The world is messy and we’re all taking live fire every day.
Those who step into the arena have a different scorecard.
We grade themselves on how we have adjusted to the unknown...
Not how closely or dogmatically we followed the "plan".
You must make room for time and luck.
4. NANOSTEPPING IS BETTER THAN LEAPING
If the only relevant data is your data...
You must collect as much data on your own as possible to inform your decisions.
Since new information is revealed with each step we take, the more steps we take the more accurate the data.
Think of Google Maps; the more often it pings the satellite for new information, the more effectively it can keep you on the most efficient route and out of danger.
Taking smaller steps is like pinging the satellite more frequently.
Commit to taking as many nanosteps as possible each day and your data bank will grow pretty fast so you can make better decisions.
5. USEFUL IS BETTER THAN VALID AND HELPFUL IS BETTER THAN RIGHT.
In the classroom...
You’re rewarded for being right...
Sounding smart and making valid arguments.
In reality (which is when you step into the arena)..
You’re rewarded for being helpful...
Staying curious and making useful arguments.
Stepping into the arena means letting go of the need to sound smart in order to make room for learning.
