The Tribemaster's Daily Mentor | Volume 1: #8

FROM: The Desk of The Chief Tribemaster

Hey there

Back when I was just starting out - I was about 18 at the time.

I was your typical hustler and I believed some how that lots of activity was better than no activity.

And so for quiet a few years I committed to speaking anywhere people had a pulse and would have me.

It worked but after a while I noticed something.

You see at the beginning.

Every speaking opportunity gave me two extra gigs and so I was pretty busy.

But as time passed - rather than increase...

The opportunities I got from each gig decrease until getting gigs was pretty tough.

I wasn't particularly happy.

One day my pastor and very good friend: The Rev. Ose or Oseboi as I referred to him in private (read that as behind is back)

Sat me down and we had a talk about what I was going through.

I wouldn't bore you with details (#evillaugh)

But here's what stood out for me:

At some point in our conversation he asked me who my models in the space was and then followed up with asking if they would live forever.

Of course not I respond.

Then he said: When they pass on, will you be qualified to step into their shoes?

I realized in that moment that I wasn't even remotely qualified to do that.

Then he nailed in the message:

Are you committed to being a master in your field or are you content with running around and settling for crumbs

I don't think I've hated anyone quite like I hated him in that moment.

But he had a point.

So I asked him the next logical question: How do I do that?

And he shared this with me:

  • Study the best of the best and figure out how they make distinctions concerning their work.
  • Use that frame to make better decisions
  • Track the quality of your decisions by the quality of your results and commit to improving over time.

I have done that for 30 years.

And in that time...

I've gone from being a butcher running around to sell meat to being the personal strategic advisor to African Presidents and some of the most influential people on the continent.

I've flown in private jets and choppers more times than i care to count to places I would never have known existed otherwise.

Just so a person in need could access my wisdom.

My favorite private jet story is when, Kam, one of my clients flew us (Diamond mastermind members) out to Dubai for a burger.

To be honest, the burger wasn't all that but what he did broke a few limits in my thinking.

We spent about an hour and a half there and we were back in Lagos again.

Right after the amazing Edirin Edewo popped my Dubai cherry in the most memorable way - demonstrating that yes you can make seemingly impossible goals happen.

Some of the experiences I have had are pretty insane.

I'm not the loudest in the field and I don't want to be.

I dare say that it's my need for privacy that ads to my credibility with the people and organizations I work with.

But I am world class in my capabilities.

I am a master.

And that means I have a high level of proficiency with the fundamentals so now I actually start learning how to shift my thinking, communication and behavior to produce any result that I want.

Mastery = The forever student

Think about it - 30+ years

Mastery takes time which ever way you want to look at it.

But...

  • Awareness of the fundamentals
  • Making Better Decisions
  • Evaluating Results

Help you collapse time as far as your progress towards accessing your highest potential is concerned.

And protect you from the consequences of your own foolishness.

I'll be unpacking this later today in our #WeAreTribemasters facebook group.

Don't worry..

Once the post is up I'll send you a message with the link so you can access it.

But for now I'd like you to give some thought to your expertise.

Would you consider yourself a master?

Would you call yourself world class and actually mean it and not just be lying to everyone including yourself?

If you're answer is no - then lets do something about it.

Like I said - I'll unpack that inside our group and message you once I do so we can have a conversation about it.

Till then..

Get out of your own way.

CTM

PS: Tomorrow I'll be digging in a concept in the Tribemaster Framework™ called Selective Fame - It'll give you a very liberating way of thinking about mastering your market and what exactly is your market.

You'll love it.
