Why you can never finish anything

Oct 28, 2022 6:59 am

Hey there..

Did you ever attend physics class?

Well one of the most useful things I learned in physics is the Law of Inertia...

The law of inertia tells us a body in motion stays in motion.

Pretty much the same goes for projects...

Creative ideas...

Daily tasks...

And that thing you stopped working on to read this email....

Not that I'm complaining o.

When you stop something..

Sometimes it's pretty hard to get started again.

According to Gloria Mark, professor of informatics at University of California..

We interrupt our own flow of activities almost every three minutes.

The result: When you’re working on something without a clear deadline, seeing it through to its end can be a huge challenge.

Think of all those books you couldn’t wait to read, but never actually finished...

The projects you giddily started that petered to stagnation

(learned that phrase yesterday)

The ideas that you never acted on...

Now...

Don't get me wrong...

Not everything is meant to be finished...

But many of us have a tons of things we have started but never finished...

Why does this happen?

1. Fear of failing to impress.

One of the reasons people don’t finish tasks is their fear of being judged.

We would rather have you judge our ability rather than judge us as individuals.

2. Fear of setting the bar too high.

Sometimes we're just afraid that we can't live up to the standards of expectation that success sets...

3. Not wanting to put an end to the fun.

If you’re having a good time working on a project or task..

Finishing it can be an issue.

And as a result we could simply start over thinking things...

All because we actually don't want the current experience to end.

So how do you over come these roadblocks and finish what you start?

That'll be coming in about an hour at 9am.

I started putting this together and it's almost eight am...

So I'm going to publish now...

And then continue so I can send you the rest in about an hour.

See you at 9am.

Till then...

Get out of your own way.
