How to survive a vampire attack

Oct 07, 2022 7:06 am

Hey there!

Thank you so much for the response yesterday.

The actionplan consultation spots filled up yesterday.

I got an interesting email from one of us yesterday and because of that I'm opening 2 additional spots for the actionplan consultation.

Once they're filled...

That's done.

Don't say I didn't do anything for you.

A few years back I was in New Zealand for our Diamond Mastermind Retreat...

Kam, one of our members was the host.

This crazy dude lives in a 14 room mansion for goodness sake...

Anyways...

Whilst we were there...

He'd contracted some people to install a pool in his yard.

I saw all kinds of tractors, mini cranes and machines I don't even know how to start to name...

Fast forward a few hours and Kam calls me aside to pint out something.

Apparently the workers were moving around some pretty large rocks...

For some strange reason...

They didn't use any of the machines.

Kam pointed out that just one of those machines could have done the work super easy.

They just felt more secure and comfortable logging those rocks about...even though it wasn't particularly safe for them.

Like most people in the expert space online today...

They seemed to identify more with the hustle and grind rather than what was effective and efficient.

They Do A LOT OF Work
And Get A LOT Less Done

I call that stupid.

And every day I see otherwise smart people get in their way because they confuse activity with accomplishment.

They brag about how hard they're working but never stop to think how much they actually get done.

Ever watched the X files?

I totally love it.

There is an episode of the X Files where the main character is about to get eaten by a Vampire.

But this vampire is obsessive-compulsive...

So the guy he's about to eat spills a bag of seeds on the floor in self-defense.

The Vampire...

Powerless against his compulsion...

Gets down to pick up each seed one by one...

Ultimately the sun rises before he can make a meal of the main dude.

Did a lot of work.

Didn’t accomplish anything meaningful.

Computer scientists call this a “ping attack” or a “denial of service” attack:

Give a system an overwhelming number of things to do...

And the important things will get lost in the madness.

We typically associate procrastination with laziness...

But truth be told...

It often comes up with people trying to get as much done as possible.

In 2014 there was a study done at Penn State University.

Participants standing at one end of a hallway were asked to bring either one of the two heavy buckets to the opposite end of the hallway.

One of the buckets was right next to the participant...

The other halfway down the hall.

Remember...

The goal is simply to get one of the buckets to the other end.

Shockingly (maybe) almost every participant picked up the bucket right next to them and lugged it all the way down the hallway...

Passing the other bucket which they could have carried only half the distance.

They did double the work needed to achieve the desired goal.

Many times when we talk about working smart...

We tend to think in terms of what to do...

And we fail to understand that it's also about knowing what to procrastinate.

But these ideas...

Knowing what to do and knowing what to procrastinate are a function of the identity that you assume in the moment.

Early 2021...

An affluent 45ish year old amazing lady who had a successful career as a lawyer in Canada.

I had a private zoom session to get to know her and figure out if she had the right kind of craze to survive working with me...

She'd left work to focus on her kids and marriage.

But she was struggling.

There were things she just couldn't "fix" and so even though she had good intentions...

She kept sabotaging any progress she made with very tiny behaviors that are difficult to catch unless you're actually paying attention.

I told her something...

Something I also want you to understand.

"You were Jane (not her name) the lawyer...

And because of that identity you were able to make a lot of money and build a solid reputation in your space.

Now you need to be Jane the lover and mother...

And you're still operating like Jane the Lawyer"

She was not making the progress she wanted because the desire to hold on to and stay consistent with her Jane the Lawyer identity...

Meant that subconsciously she had to place obstacles in her own way...

Question: Is it possible that you're doing the exact same thing?

My life these days is different from back in 2015 - 2019...

Back then I was all hustle and grind...

These days not so much.

I talk to dozens of entrepreneurs every month that stay in their own way without recognizing it because they fight to maintain an identity that no longer works for them.

I'm willing to bet many of the disadvantages you experience in your life are your own doing...

And most of them are coming from fighting to keep an identity that no longer works for you.

Let go of the identity that no longer serves.

How do you know when an identity no longer serves you?

When the results you produce are consistently not what you want.

So chill...

Take some time out and really look at what you do and how you operate...

It is working?

If it's not...

It's time for a change.

Tomorrow..

I'll share with you 6 rules I personally follow for up leveling my identity whenever I want...

Follow them and I literally guarantee that you will level up consistently...

Get things done in the most effective and efficient way possible.

You're gonna love it.

Till then...

Get out of your own way.
