THE GREAT EVIL: There is great evil threatening the future of the people you want to bring together. It threatens their world. This storyline encourages them to must grow their skills and resources in the face of this great evil. Then, at some stage when they are strong enough, they must fight and destroy the great evil. It won't be easy and the odds will be staked against them. At some stage it will appear that this is an impossible fight to win - but eventually they will be triumphant. The evil will be overcome and the rewards will be huge. - CTM
Hey there!
Part of my two week intentions was to launch the Community Mastery Method group this Sunday, January 28th, 2025 with 1000 people.
As at this moment, I've had 400 people apply and I've so far declined 340 applications. I'll give you a total breakdown of what's happening when I give my fortnight report tomorrow.
Today though...
I want to start by keeping my promise of why I have rejected 340.
I hope in sharing this, it'll give you some context for how you also build your audience.
I started promotions on Tuesday morning and the application process was simple...
Step 1: Answer 3 questions
Step 2: Agree to the rules
340 people did not do that...
No here's the thing...
I can pretty much condone not answering the questions...
But not agreeing to the rules....
Welll....#evillaugh
Why's this important?
Because commitments signal interest.
The willingness to micro commit to being bound by a set of rules that require you to be a decent human being, says a lot about how you'll show up in the group.
And you have to take that seriously if you want the group to be the basis for building a community of true fans who ultimately help you launch, grow and scale a wildly successful and highly profitable global practice.
More about that tomorrow in my report.
Yesterday we talked about the story archetype: The Great Evil.
Hopefully it gave you some food for thought.
(Don't know what that's about? Read yesterday's email)
Today I want to share with you a template for telling this kind of story.
First though...
It's important to understand that the stories we tell others or ourselves, have very little to do with the facts of the situation...
And everything to do with our intention.
Most of us assume that our present is a function of our past...
Truth be told...
It's more a function of the stories we tell ourselves to create meanings for the past...
That's why two people can go through exactly the same circumstance and yet create two completely different futures as a result...
It's all in how our stories represent the facts to us.
So facts end up...
Deleted...totally consciously forgotten...
Generalized....making blanket assumptions not completely rooted in the facts...
Distorted....reframed to suit a story
We do this all the time.
The trick is to make sure it serves you and the future you want to create.
Now that's out of the way...
Let's get into the template..
=====================================================
In sharing this template with you, I share my story story of graduating 3rd class and leveraging personal development to become adviser to African Presidents.
Now that story changed overtime as I evolved but it was instrumental to the success that PowerIdeas enjoyed whilst I still published it as a generalist personal development tool...
Step 1: Set the stage
My mother raised me to believe that I am intelligent and could do anything I set my mind to - that nothing was impossible. And so by the time I was in JSS 3....I was doing math assignments first year students in the University of Calabar. My reputation is secondary school was that of a genius who could make anything happen....so much so that I was made senior school prefect by the time I was in SS2.
N/B: Notice how I deleted the information about killing my mother? Whilst everything I've said is true, I have deleted information not relevant to the identity I wish to create.
Step 2: Detail the day everything changed and the evil appeared
So you can imagine my shock when I stood with everyone else in front of the notice board at school to check my results and found out I'd graduated with a 3rd Class Degree in Management. I felt my life was over before it'd had begun.
It was painful to see others who had copied my work graduate with 2.2s and 2.1s and something in me died that day.
I. Wasn't. Good. Enough.
Step 3: Detail when you recognized the evil for what it was and decided you've had enough
Going forward I sabotaged everything that was important to me.
And justified it by repeating to myself over and over and over that I wasn't good enough and so didn't deserve the best of anything.
And so I suffered, until I met Big Uncle - a lovable guy I served with back in Abeokuta.
Big Uncle had...
A Nursery School...
A Secondary School...
A Transport Company..
A Microfinance Bank...
And....
A pass in Education!!!!!
It was the first time I realized that I'd a sheet of paper crucified on a rather dirty notice board define what was possible or not possible for me.
I'd had enough!!!!
I wasn't going to allow that anymore.
Step 3: Detail how you fought and overcame the great evil
The battle wasn't easy because without knowing it, I had sided with the enemy and was actively committed to keeping me exactly where I was.
Fortunately, there was a part of me that was desperate enough to ask for help.
We are all subject to the influence of the information and relationships we consistently expose ourselves to.
Asking Big Uncle for help and doing everything I could to submit to his mentorship was my turning point.
He gave me books to read...
And these books opened me up to a whole new way of thinking about myself and what's possible..
Trusted me with projects that I successfully carried out.
And with each success, my insidious third class identity shriveled up and in it's place started to grow the identity of a first class, world class individual.
He taught me to take 100% responsibility for my life and the results that I produce...
And as I implemented what he taught me...
I prospered in mind and in spirit.
Step 4: Detail your victory
Today...
I still have a third class degree in management but I am far from being a third class person...
#cuethehumblebrag
Blah blah blah blah blah blah....
Step 5: Share what you've learned why this matters to your audience
There's a lot that is possible for you if you just simply get out of your own way.
Now I might not know much about you and I'm willing to bet that most of us here have better degrees than I do...
One thing I do know is that YOU are far more than you are currently demonstrating.
And for some of us...
The frustration that comes with that is borderline unbearable!
If you're one of such people, PowerIdeas offers you a structured process for getting out of your own way so you can play at the level that you've always wanted to.
So right now you have a choice.
Stay where you are and hope for the best.
Or...
Like me say: Enough!!!
And have the courage to reach out for the help that PowerIdeas provides...
==========================================
See how that works?
Try your hand at a few stories like this and if you like, share them with me for feedback.
Tomorrow I'll be sharing my two week report with you...
I hope you'll be doing the same.
Taking time out to evaluate your progress regularly and setting new intentions is a key to making quantum leaps in progress this year.
Till then...
Get out of your own way and play a bigger game than you've ever played before.
