What to do if you hate your business
Jun 06, 2020 12:00 pm
Hey there
It's the Chief Tribemaster here...
And it's a beautiful morning here in Lagos.
I got this question yesterday:
I’m making more money than I ever have. I have more money, more revenue, more leads, more sales.
Yet, I feel like I have less of everything. My dream has come true but the reality is not as good as the dream. What do I do?
I get the most interesting questions in my inbox.

Oh and just to give you some context...
This subscriber made N100million last week...
So when he says he's making money...
He's not talking kolomental change...
For my non Nigerian subscribers...
Read that as "Chump" Change...
For those of us not at this point yet...
This question and my answer is an important thing
to keep in mind...
Why?
Because we all get to that point when the business
we love turns into the business we hate....
The only reason that happens...
Is because for whatever reason....
We get out of alignment with what's really important to us.
I remember a conversation I once had with
Ronald Nzimora...
He'd just helped me with some copy...
And was basically offering to partner with me as
an affiliate...
And also bring on board a few heavy hitters...
That would have meant more money and a lot more
exposure...
But I declined...
Why?
Because I was clear about what was important to me
as far as HPEN was concerned...
And why I was doing what I was doing...
Ronald's response to that was:
"Victor you're one of the most self aware people I know"
And right there in that sentence is what's important...
Knowing yourself and what you want and acting accordingly.
So let's dig into my answer to this question:
===================================
There's only one reason to hate your business...
And it's this:
You are out of alignment with what's really
important to you.
There are 3 ways to respond to things when
you find yourself out of alignment.
First...
You can force your way through it..
Essentially betray yourself and keep going.
This is what most people do...
Unfortunately it's also a pretty cool prepping
ground for suicide, divorce and a shitty life.
Second...
Hire out that thing that you're forcing yourself to
do.
Third...
Simply tell yourself..
"You know what? F$#% it!"
And then just stop.
There's a very big difference between pushing
yourself...
And..
Forcing yourself.
When you force yourself...
You generally don't show up at your best for...
Yourself...
Your clients...
Your family and friends...
I might not be the ultimate guru for business
in general...
But after working with hundreds of really cool
people over the years...
I can tell you for free...
That there's a lot of anxiety and pain that comes...
When your business is your identity.
That's not how it's meant to be.
Yet that's how literally all the high powered
people I've worked with...
Identify...
And I used to be that way too.
But I've learned how to be Victor outside my
business.
Now maybe you resonate with this...
Especially if you're bringing in N400m ($1m) a month.
Or..
You're at that point where you're trying to get to your
first N4m a month..
Or somewhere in between...
Here's what I've found to be incredibly powerful...
TAKE THE TIME AND MAKE THE EFFORT TO
UNDERSTAND WHY YOU'RE IN BUSINESS.
To many people think it's all about the money..
Then they start making the money and realize..
"Oh Crap!
CTM was right...
It wasn't about the money"
And at that point everything starts to fall apart.
I hope that helps
