Once upon a time...

(Psst! You're supposed to respond by saying: Time, Time!)

I was minding my business when out of the blue three members of the Highly Paid Experts Network...

Tagged me on facebook saying: I want to be like you when I grow up...

Usually my response to such ridiculousness is: Be careful what you wish for.

But this time around I responded with a laugh emoji.

I think they must have mistook my response to be an invitation to have a private conversation with me about possible internship opportunities.

Anyways..

Long story short..

Since I was home alone...

My kids where on a country hopping spree with my wife...

I invited them over to see what a day in my work life looked like...

Unfortunately for them...

They came over at a peak time in the month when I was doing

action sessions for platinum members and...

I'd just gotten a contract to do a strategic focus intervention for the sales team of a company in Tokyo.

So these unfortunate hpenites land in my place at about 8am the following day...

I gave them a run down of what the day would look like and license to raid my fridge.

(Big mistake by the way...I'm NEVER doing that again!)

Anyways...

At 9am...I had my first consultation for the day.

At 6pm in the evening...they asked me when we were going to close...

I told them I still had a lot to cover before my day was done but they were free to leave if they wanted too...

For what ever reason they decided to stay...

10pm...I'm still at it.

One had left for home...

Two remained and had started looking like they'd pass out.

2am...I asked them to get some sleep that I was fine by myself...

7am...they're up and looking slightly guilty.

I was still awake and working...high on coffee.

4pm the next day...they thanked me for the opportunity and left.

Scratch that...

They ran!

Hehehehe...they just couldn't keep up.

Yeah...yeah...

It was evil of me..

I know...but I did warn them.

My point?

You don't operate at the level I do without some sacrifice.

Influence comes at a price.

The bigger the level of influence you want...

The bigger the price you will have to pay.

The smart thing to do is to decide ahead of time what price

you will never pay and what you will never give up.

If you don't do that...

You will end up paying far more than you bargained for.

It's kinda like going to the market without having a definite

cap on how much you will spend for anything.

I decide a long time ago..

Thanks to the influence of my ultrawise father...

I decided that my family would always come first no matter what...

I would sooner sacrifice my work than sacrifice my wife and children...

That of course means that that there are certain levels of influence

that I will never get to as long as I have two children less than 21 years old...

And I am fine with that.

Influence always demands sacrifice.

In order to develop it...

You are going to have to give things up.

You'll need to give up some relationships...

You'll need to give up certain habits...

You'll have to give up certain pleasures...

And exchange them for a certain level of suffering.

And that's just the price for the warm up...

As your influence grows...

More and more demands will come for you to give up

more and more of yourself...

In order to be able to serve and influence at a higher level.

If you haven't decided ahead of time what price you will not pay...

You will wake up one morning feeling both fulfilled and frustrated...

So take out some time today to dream and think of how

far you want to go in terms of influence...

But also decide today what price you are willing to pay...really think.

Your decision concerning what price you will or will not pay...

Sets a ceiling on the kinds of opportunities that you will be able

to take advantage of...

As well as the level of influence you will ultimately have.
