How Sharon got her groove back

Hey there


Let me tell you about Sharon.


Initially...


She worked with a big name mentor who shall not be named.


He told her, "You need a book. You need to get out there on social media and speak and blog to get people to work with you."


On the surface...great idea.


But the context...


Absolutely rubbish given who she is.


Anyways...


Sharon took the advice she had received and wrote her book and started her blog.


Then she started trying to be visible on social media.


But...


She found this work crazy hard..


Painfully slow...


Difficult and very draining.


And other than speaking...


None of it seemed to be bringing in business.


She hated writing and creating content all the time.


She missed being out and about, connecting with leaders she could serve.


Now I can go on and on about her frustration at how long it was taking her practice to grow...


She was doing about $8000 a month at the time and wanted to do more.


But...


I think you get the drift.

Her “aha” moment came when she completed the MBE Quotient Assessment...


She scored...


54 in the Connector Type...


42 in the Celebrity Type...


4 in the Creator Type..


and...


0 in the Change Maker Type..

No wonder she had been so drained and frustrated trying to write and produce content consistently!


The Creator and Change Maker types were

were derailers for her!

So trying to grow her business by blogging and publishing new content was bound to create struggle..


Content creation left her frustrated and drained...


And it did little to grow her practice as she an executive coach.


At the time...


Sharon was doing a lot of one-to-one executive coaching...


Which fit her strength of the Connector Type well.


But something was missing...


And after she completed her MBE Quotient Assessment...


She realized it was the Celebrity Type..


She was spending little time being inspirational (Hallmark of the Celebrity Type)..


And far too much of her time trying to create content...


Because she believed she needed it to succeed...


And was frustrated that she didn't have more time to inspire and influence.


The shift with Sharon was pretty simple.


I said, "Okay, we're going to stop doing all the things that fall into the Creator/content creation category, and we're going to focus on people, partnerships and connection."


That's where her new growth strategy came in.


Sharon set up partnerships with other organizations that served her ideal market.


She offered group roundtable discussions for executives of growth-oriented entrepreneurial companies.


This got her out in front of clients who needed her and gave her a way to do the deep and inspiring work she loved.


Guess what?


Sharon’s business exploded!


Why?


Because she'd shifted her focus from the areas in which she wasn't strong...


Content creation...


Online marketing...


And social media....


To areas in which she was strong:


Connecting...


Coaching...


And


Partnering...


Which are all hallmarks of her Connector and Celebrity types.


3 years later she's at $70,000+ a month.


And now we're mapping out an online strategy that is also focuses on connecting, coaching and partnering.


Now let's be clear...


There's nothing wrong with social media, online marketing or content creation...


They are vitally important skills to develop in today's world...


But how you deploy them should be in alignment with who you are.


I'm a content beast...


One time I did 3 live videos, an email and 4 Facebook posts everyday for a year...


That built a group that made $100,000+ a year.


But I struggled.


Why?


I'm a Change-Maker Connector...


When I came to my senses...


In 2017...


I shifted to...


Partnerships..


Innovation...


And connection as my primary strategies...


Launched #hpenconnect


Scaled back on posts and focused instead on delivering strong content and great experiences...


By 2019, the I'd crossed a billion Naira in revenue...


Which I promptly destroyed...

For now...


Remember this...


If you want to make a lot of money study marketing but if you want to make a fortune, know yourself.
