Day 2: Mastering Your Message
Hey there!
Welcome to day two of our Tribemaster Transformation Ecourse.
Yesterday I laid the foundation of sharing an overview of all the core 5 force multipliers - power ideas that radically improve your ability to create the results you want in life and at the market place.
Today we're digging into the very first of five force multipliers: Master your message.
This is where your journey to becoming a high-profile, highly paid person of influence in your field begins.
It's also where everything about building a wildly successful, and highly profitable Tribemasters Practice starts.
Question: What Does "Master Your Message" Mean?
I'm glad you asked.
Mastering your message is all about thinking through what you want to say to the world and learning how to say it in a way that really gets attention - the right attention.
One of my all time favorite examples of this is Steve Jobs with his "Think Different" campaign.
That campaign hasn't been aired since 2002 and yet it still hits.
And as a result...
Years after Steve Job's passing - apple is still connected with innovation and sleek design, even though in my opinion their are doing their very best to ruin that reputation.
But I digress.
So why Is It Important?
Imagine you're at a party.
There are lots of people talking...
But only a few have a crowd around them.
What's their secret?
It's pretty simple.
They know exactly what to say and how to say it to keep people interested and coming back for more.
In other words: They've mastered their message.
This is something you really have to keep in mind because in today's world: Being good at what you do is simply not enough.
You've got to be able to effectively communicate in a way that tell the right people:
I am worth paying attention to
Mastering your message helps you:
- Stand out in a crowded market
- Attract the right kind of clients or followers
- Build a strong, recognizable brand
- Make a lasting impact in your field
Take John Obidi for instance...
In a market place full of online and social media experts...
John stands out with his message of personal sovereignty and hustle...
Its a message that has helped him build an insane following and a business model that is pretty much recession proof.
There are 3 core steps to mastering your message:
1. Develop Authority
To master your message, you first need to become an undisputed expert in your field.
Duh?!
Yeah...I know it sounds redundant.
But it's vitally important. You really do need to know your stuff.
But here's the twist.
Becoming someone who is seen as an expert isn't about knowing everything in your space.
It's about haveing a clear branded roadmap that takes people from point A (where they are) to point B (where they want to be).
I pause and let that sink in for a bit.
2. Craft Compelling Narratives
Once you have your expertise organized into a roadmap that takes your market from where they are to where they want to be.
You need to be able to communicate it in a way that is meaningful, engaging and memorable.
This is where storytelling comes in.
We are all wired to remember stories better than facts and figures.
One of my favorite authors Malcolm Gladwell is a master at this.
In his book "Outliers," he uses the story of Bill Gates to illustrate his "10,000-hour rule." (Which he stole and misrepresented by the way but I digress)
By wrapping his ideas in compelling narratives, Gladwell makes complex sociological concepts accessible and interesting to a wide audience.
3. Communicate Consistently
The final step is to deliver your message consistently across all platforms and interactions.
Whether someone's reading your blog, listening to you speak, or chatting with you over coffee, they should hear the same core message.
I do this by default.
And if you're in my world for any length of time - it's pretty clear what I'm about.
Can you tell?
Hint: It's not turkey, coffee or women. #justsaying
Let's bring this all together.
CASE STUDY: Meet Modupe Ehirim
Modupe is a Marriage Educator who has not just the expertise but also the credibility (50 years happily married to her "Chairman).
Here's how she mastered her message:
1. Develop Authority:
Modupe has spent years in consistent development of her skills for crafting a successful marriage. In 2016 she create The RightFit Marriage process - the core idea being that whilst there are fundamentals, every couple has a unique fit for what makes a successful marriage for them. It's different for every one.
2. Craft Compelling Narratives:
Based on her research and experience, and through the lens of " A RightFit Marriage". She created stories and analogies to explain with a bit of commonsense couple differences don't need to be a cause for disharmony but can be a basis for an amazing life time relationship.
3. Communicate Consistently:
Modupe create the Right Fit Marright Academy - a facebook group devoted to sharing the message of the RightFit Marriage.
Over time Modupe has become a force to be reckoned with in West Africa as far as marriage education is concerned.
She's regularly a gets on radio shows, podcasts, conferences and has clients all over the world.
Now let's talk about you.
Your Task:
For the next week, focus on these three core steps:
1. Develop Authority: Identify one area within your expertise where you can deepen your knowledge. Commit to spending at least 30 minutes each day learning about this area. Then create a step by step roadmap for solving a specific problem in this space.
Need help with this? Consider buying my book: The Tribemaster's Practice
2. Craft Compelling Narratives: Write down three stories from your own experience that illustrate key aspects of your message. Practice telling these stories to friends or family.
3. Communicate Consistently: Create a one-sentence summary of your core message. Challenge yourself to incorporate this message into every interaction you have this week.
Remember, mastering your message is a journey.
But with each step...
Each story you tell...
Each piece of knowledge you gain...
Each time you share your message...
You're getting closer to becoming the go-to expert in your field.
Tomorrow...
We'll dive into the second force multiplier: Master your market.
Till then.
Get out of your own way.
