How to do less work and earn more
Sep 27, 2022 7:01 am
Hey there!
So yesterday I started a conversation about one of my pet peeves: "Toxic Achievement"
That tendency we all have to want to do everything and all things at once and right now!
#sigh
But when you think about it..
I can't blame any of us for wanting everything now...
Everything around us is getting faster...
Thanks to technology...
Business is evolving per second per second...
We all have caught the speed bug...
And as a result...
We find ourselves doing either one of two things in response
- We get overwhelmed, crash and blow everything up (family, friends, career, health etc)
- We hustle even harder and try to change faster than everything else around us
In my experience...
They're both big mistakes.
You can't out hustle change.
Especially when technology is involved.
But feel free to try...
Personally I have better options.
The key is: Systems.
I've learned the hard way that having systems in place is the only way to thrive in the face of consistent change, and overwhelming complexity.
I use a series of systems in my life, practice and business.
And I'm consistently making nano, micro and sometimes major changes to improve them as my options expand.
For most people...
That's a difficult thing to do.
I mean...
If it's working...
Why wreck it?
I'm always working to make sure there's as little friction as possible between where I am and where I want to get to.
Whether that means..
Hitting a business target...
Being a super father...
Or just plain scheming to have sex every day.
Question: What are systems?
Glad you asked.
Answer: A system is a way of working or doing things that gets you from where you are to where you want to be and that is proven to deliver consistent results each and every time.
Systems are the way you do less and achieve more. Work less and earn more. All that good stuff.
So how do you start developing systems to use in your life and business?
Here’s what you do:
(1) Accept that there is no such thing as a unique problem.
Every challenge or problem that you currently face is a variation of something someone else has experienced at some point in their life.
(2) Start looking for repeatable ways of doing things that you can apply to those problems and that make it easier for you to reach your goals.
Systems operate in stages and phases.
And that means if you currently have a system in place for doing something and it doesn't consistently deliver results...
It's very possible that you're implementing the wrong system for this problem.
Try applying it to a different phase or stage.
Try it out and see how it makes your life easier this week.
Happy experimenting!
By the way...
Make sure you read tomorrow's email...
It'll save you from making a major mistake most people make when it comes to implementing systems in their lives..
Till then...
Get out of your own way.
